It has just been announced, on Suzanne Vega's official web site, that US release has been postponed until "this Fall". http://www.suzannevega.com/close-up-vol-3-states-of-being-out-july-11th/

With the European release date just three days away (July 11th), I am evidently enough of an obsessive to have canceled my Amazon US order and re-ordered from Amazon UK. :sigh:

With shipping the total is £9.74 (approx. $15.75), so I guess I'm paying more than a few buck to get this 2-3 months sooner, but I do wonder why this is coming out here so much later than elsewhere and why it's not available on the web site itself. The previous "Close-Up" volumes were sold directly.

The digital download will apparently be available in advance of the CD, as noted on this link which states: CD Out in Europe July 11th (CD available in the US this Fall. Or download it now at NimbitMusic.com)

And there's more MP3 ONLY bonus tracks. That so pisses me off. At some point i need to start just saying no to these artist rip offs.

Amen. And at this point the only way to get the extra track is to buy the whole MP3 album. :-x With "Close-Up, Vol. 2" you could still buy the regular CD from Nimbit and get access to the mp3 bonus track; it's possible that this will be the case later this fall when the physical CD is released, but that's certainly not the case right now. I wonder who makes these decisions? The artist? Their manager(s)? The record companies?

It's significantly more profitable for an artist to sell you a download rather than a physical product, so why wouldn't they try to incentiveize that by offering bonus/exclusive content?

At least they could offer the bonus material in Flac.

Because unless as artist is blissfully unaware or just plain greedy, a significant number of fans state they don't like downloads and prefer a tangible product with artwork you don't have to print out and assemble like you're in Art Class 101. This isn't Lady Gaga; Vega's demographic is much older and more traditional and I have little doubt would prefer a CD. If you really have to hear "Luka" on your MP3 player when you're jogging, you can always transfer it. There's no reason a deluxe CD edition containing all the same tracks in full fidelity couldn't be sold exclusively through an artist's site, giving them most of the profit with no label or distribution middlemen taking a piece. The recent k.d.lang release did exactly that: her store offered the regular version, and also a deluxe edition with extra songs only available there.

It doesn't help an artist to anger and frustrate their fans; people talk and spread their frustration on other sites, and I've seen comments about Vega after the Vol. 2 situation. If downloads are so darn popular and wonderful in their reduced-frequency/no artwork glory. then by all means, offer up the CHOICE of a digital download version OR a physical CD (possibly exclusive to their site) so at least fans have the CHOICE...

As for myself, despite being a fan with all her previous albums,I have yet to buy any of these re-recording releases and won't, unless she compiles all of them into a physical CD deluxe set containing all the bonus tracks. Oh, and of course, for marketing purposes, add a few more in that weren't in the download-with-bonuses versions, to get all tho$e fan$ to re-purcha$e it as well...

I agree wholeheartedly! While I understand the bonus tracks concept, I hate the practice of them being spread out, sometimes over physical product AND digital downloads -- but I think that an artist should be able to sell an exclusive, deluxe version that includes ALL of the bonus material in one physical product!

Yep, that's what I'd like to buy.

Same here. I've tweeted Suzanne asking her about this twice but she hasn't responded (hopefully because it's in the plans already and she just doesn't want people to wait to buy volumes 3 and 4? Wishful thinking). It makes sense, even if it's exclusive to Amazon or her own site.

As if the whole situation weren't complicated and annoying enough, I believe vol. 2 has a bonus track on CDs sold at Borders that isn't available as a download.

Same here, and I'd be prepared to pay extra if it guaranteed I'd get all the stray tracks floating around.

There are 2 website bonus tracks, Anniversary & Language for a total of 16. it APPEARS that these are cd only, only the first 14 are download. They also sent me an email about an optional autographed version, it's somewhat buried on the site & is $20 + s/h. Reg cd is $12.99 + $2.79 s/h. Website release date is 11/1/11.

The site makes it appear that the bonus trax are on the cd & not available by download. If it's the opposite I'm going to be furious.
I was going to order, but decided to first email & ask about the bonus trax.

There's also a $10 2005 exclusive live cd hiding on the site:
http://www.suzannevega.com/store/#music ... alkhousecd

For those who don't want to wait or buy bonus trax, it's already up on Amazon.UK

I got the download and it included the two bonus tracks, so I think you're going to be furious - and you have the right to be. This was the same crap they pulled with Vol. 2, if you recall. I'm enough of a fan that I bought both the CD and the download, which is probably what they had in mind, but as the old saying goes, "If you're going to f*ck me, at least you could buy me dinner."
