How weird. The second set begins on Disc One, track 12.

That's because Disc 1, Track 12 is the FIRST track on Moving Pictures (during the tour, Rush performed Moving Pictures in its entirety, but in the middle of the show). The 2-CD set has the first part of Moving Pictures on Disc 1 (tracks 12-15), and then the second part on Disc 2 (tracks 1-3). This seems awkward at first, until you realize that the album is split at the point where you would have had to turn over the Moving Pictures LP back in the day. "Side 1" is on Disc 1 and "Side 2" is on Disc 2. Pretty cool!

So these are two separate releases? Is the Moving Pictures Live LP from the same performance on the CD? Does anyone know if there will be a super deluxe edition that includes all of this plus the DVD (&/or Blu-Ray)?

Yes, two separate audio releases drawn from the same performance, and with no indication that the "standalone" Moving Pictures will be available on CD (apparently, only LP and digital). Since the video and audio releases are being handled by different companies, it's unlikely that a comprehensive video/audio edition will be available.

Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me that at some later point Moving Pictures eventually gets a commercial CD release, as was the case with Grace Under Pressure: 1984 Tour.

If the standalone Moving Pictures Live is from the same performance on the 2CD set, there would really be no need for it to be released separately on CD, except for the most obsessive completist. If it's from a different show, even though the sound would be almost exactly the same, then it might be worth getting.

I'm just hoping they finally found someone who can do a good surround sound mix on the DVD version.

It's the same show on both releases. I already started a thread on this release but I don't remember if the info is any different.

Yes to both questions.

Here's the thread for the DVD/Blu-ray release:

I saw the Toledo show (two days before this one) and the Detroit show (two days after) so I know what they performed. The second set, after a break, WAS Moving Pictures. I just find it odd that the two discs wouldn't replicate the two sets. Surely there's plenty of room. You're right about the divide though and it is cool. Perhaps their thinking is that the people would prefer the "hits" together on disc one. This begs the question: is the CD studio only version going to follow the same sequence on discs 1 & 2.

There is no studio version-I'm sure you meant the live only version and that will simply be a one disc release of just Moving Pictures live in order as it was played.
As a Rush fanatic I'm afraid I'll be buying all of it-but something like the Moving Pictures-only CD I'll buy sometime next year for $6 or so.

I suppose an alternative would have been to spread the show across 3 CDs, resulting in something like the following...

Disc 1: The Spirit Of Radio - Time Stand Still - Presto - Stick It Out - Workin' Them Angels - Leave That Thing Alone - Faithless - BU2B - Free Will - Marathon - Subdivisions
Disc 2: Tom Sawyer - Red Barchetta - YYZ - Limelight - The Camera Eye - Witch Hunt - Vital Signs
Disc 3: Caravan - Moto Perpetuo - O'Malley's Break - Closer To The Heart - 2112 Overture/The Temples of Syrinx - Far Cry - La Villa Strangiato - Working Man

But obviously that's not cost-effective for the label when you can present the same material on only two discs.

I meant the CD only LIVE version. There is one listed, I believe along with the vinyl or download only MOVING PICTURES LIVE. I'll likely get the vinyl and DVD right off the bat and wait for the audio CD to show up used.

Here's a very funny video to promote the Time Machine Live DVD, followed by a typically solid version of Tom Sawyer:

Who says prog bands don't have a sense of humor?

I didn't embed the video in my previous post. Let's see if it works here.
