I think "Wishing On A Star" and "I’ll Be Around" are really good choices here; neither has been done to death and both seem ripe for rediscovery/reinterpretation.
Not done to death, but... Joan Osborne and Hall & Oates covered "I'll Be Around" not so long ago. "Wishing..." has been covered by the aforementioned Paul Weller, along with Randy Crawford and Elaine Paige, as well as several smooth jazz type covers...
My point is that these songs -- and I'm sure David Foster's boring production -- will make this a disappointment for me.
There are tons of other rarer soul songs that Seal could do, and THAT, I would enjoy! How about something from Teena Marie? Some Deniece Williams? Some Luther Vandross? Since I'm listening to several Etta James reissues recently, how about some old Etta soul chestnuts (and NOT "At Last)? Maybe James Brown? How about Marvin Gaye's "To Keep You Satisfied" (from the underrated "Here, My Dear...")? How about some early Smokey Robinson solo material ("Sweet Harmony", "Quiet Storm", or "Just My Soul Responding")? Bill Withers has an amazing catalogue of songs -- and not just the obvious ones. How about Soul II Soul's "Back To Life" -- that's never been remade as far as I know.
Beverley Knight recently released "Soul UK" and that was a terrific release, with lots of surprises!
