Product Description
There are only a select number of bands that have accomplished what Judas Priest has throughout their career (as well as having served as a stylistic influence on such a wide variety of bands). Soon the group - singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis - will be offering up more classic Judas Priest metal with the release of 'Redeemer of Souls'

To be released in the US on July 15th, 2014 via Epic Records (as a standard version and a deluxe edition with five bonus tracks), 'Redeemer of Souls' is Judas Priest's latest collection of epic metal - "raising the bar is consistent for us and 'Redeemer' hits the ground running" - it matches up perfectly to earlier Priest classics as evidenced by the album's leadoff single 'March of the Damned' ("we are forging ahead, slamming the pedal to the metal!") - the band mean business once again.

"We feel 'Redeemer of Souls' reinforces our passion for what we believe in from the Judas Priest style heavy metal." The album also marks Richie Faulkner's studio debut with Priest and is the co-writer of the material along with Glenn Tipton and Rob Halford.

First bursting onto the scene with 1974's 'Rocka Rolla' Judas Priest is responsible for some of heavy metal's all-time great albums - 1980's 'British Steel', 1982's 'Screaming for Vengeance', 1990's 'Painkiller' etc - and anthems 'Breaking the Law', 'Living After Midnight', 'You've Got Another Thing Coming' etc - as well as trailblazing metal's now instantly identifiable look - leather and studs - 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the band.

And while fans are undoubtedly starved for more Priest (their last studio album 'Nostradamus' was released in 2008) the band themselves are eager for the world to hear their latest studio triumph. "Classic combination of all the statements we love to create with raging guitar riffs and solos, thundering drums, thick grooves of bass and vocals tearing it all up!"

Despite being on the road for the band’s farewell world tour, Judas Priest will have a new album ready in 2012, according to lead throat Rob Halford.

In a new interview with Billboard.com, Halford says that he and guitarist Glenn Tipton “began writing new music early on this year, before we went out on the road. We have about 12 or 14 tracks completely mapped out, four of which have been recorded and mixed and are ready to go… so the good news is that there will be a brand new Priest record next year.”

Halford adds that the group is leaving some room for new guitarist Richie Faulkner, who replaced the retired K.K. Downing for the current Epitaph World Tour, “to join in and make contributions as well.” But he’s confident that won’t change the overall tenor of the album.

“I think it’s fair to say that this is going to be just another great, traditional British heavy metal album from Priest with what you love about the band — the riffs, the screaming vocals, all of the tradition and heritage that we try to keep somehow in our music as we’ve moved along,” Halford promises.

This, of course, means that the Epitaph World Tour is hardly the last we’ll see of Judas Priest, and Halford acknowledges the fact:

“[We are]taking every opportunity to let our fans know this is not the end of Judas Priest. We’re just cutting back on these big, long treks around the world that we love to do. But yet we’re facing mortality; as a metal singer I’m still able to do the vast majority of things that have laid out before me…but I’d be the first to admit that I’m finding it more challenging now, and I don’t want to get into that syndrome where you end up a little bit punch-drunk and you’re not giving the performance that you want to give.

“I’m delighted that we’re taking this approach because the inevitable payoff is that it gives the band more life. We’re able to continue doing selective shows in the future and, as importantly, keep recording and making new metal records.”

Halford adds that one of those future live projects might be a live show based on Priest’s 2008 concept album “Nostradamus.”

“That is a very important record for us,” he says. “We had a big-picture aspect of what we wanted to do with ‘Nostradamus’ in mind — of course, to play it in its entirety, which is completely feasible — and because we are cutting back on these intense tours we can focus more on that.”

After a European swing this summer, Priest’s Epitaph World Tour continues in Latin America starting Sept. 10 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The North American leg begins Oct. 12 in San Antonio, Texas, and wraps on Dec. 3 in Biloxi, Miss.

Judas Priest wrapped up their farewell Epitaph tour in May, and now the band is planning to regroup to start to work on some new music.

Frontman Rob Halford tells Billboard that the group is "ramping things up to get back into full writing and recording mode" back in England. He and guitarist Glenn Tipton have "a tremendous amount of material in the vaults already," and they expect new guitarist Richie Faulkner, who replaced co-founder KK Downing in 2011, to make a contribution as well.

"As we were proceeding on this world tour he was taking this little mini-studio into his dressing room and we could hear him riffing away," Halford recalls. "It's going to be really thrilling moment to get together in a new writing dimension, Glenn and myself and Richie, putting all of these ideas together. We'll see what we can do over the next couple of months, look at everything, lay it all out and then start the hard work of picking out the best material."

In addition to new material, Priest have two other projects on the go: the September 4 release of "Screaming For Vengeance – Special 30th Anniversary Edition" and a live DVD from the farewell tour.

The final Epitaph show - at the Hammersmith Apollo in London - was professionally filmed for a 2013 DVD release.

"Had a sneaky listen to the recording of the Hammersmith show with Tom Allom. Rearrange these words: Face your off it's tear gonna," posted Faulkner on his Facebook page just weeks after the May 26th concert.

Well that explains the lack of any release info. While it could release by end-of-year, it's looking like the new album will slip to 2013.

Judas Priest have posted an update on two of the band’s forthcoming projects.

“The guys are working in the studio on their new album - and all is going is really well!,” reports the group via their website.

Last summer, the band revealed plans to regroup following their “Epitaph” world tour to start to work on some new music.

Frontman Rob Halford told Billboard in August that the group is "ramping things up to get back into full writing and recording mode" back in England. He and guitarist Glenn Tipton have "a tremendous amount of material in the vaults already," and they expect new guitarist Richie Faulkner, who replaced co-founder KK Downing in 2011, to make a contribution as well.

Priest are also passing along a tease for their next video project.

“We will be releasing the live 'Epitaph' DVD & Bluray soon - release date to be announced shortly!,” said the band.

The final Epitaph show - at the Hammersmith Apollo in London - was professionally filmed for the DVD release.

Judas Priest are in the process of launching their new live DVD, “Epitaph” - due later this month - but they’re already sharing an update on their next studio album.

“It's coming along really well,” guitarist Richie Faulkner tells Rolling Stone. “We're not saying too much about it at the moment –it's kind of early to say. But it's shaping up really well. The great thing from a writing point of view is that Priest's brand of music is so broad, there's a lot to take from. One extreme from the other. You can put stuff on the table and nothing is discounted. You might get some bands that are like, ‘Oh, we can't do that, it sounds a bit like this or that.’ With Priest, you can put anything on the table and you've got the flexibility from the scope of the sound, creatively. And then you've got people like Halford and Glenn, they put their stamp on it. Songs like ‘Green Manalishi’ and ‘Diamonds And Rust’ – when a band like Priest, with that sort of musical voice gets on something, it becomes a whole different monster. And the same thing with the new stuff. So it's exciting. And from my point of view, to be a part of that is ridiculous. It's fantastic.”

Vocalist Rob Halford was asked about the timeline for the new record.

“Ready when it's ready. No rush,” he says. “We don't want to drop the ball – we've never dropped the ball, anyway. We're certainly not in a ‘luxury moment.’ When you think about it, any band that was in the Eighties that was having success, you were literally making a record a year. The demand was so strong . . . I mean, in those days, you were popping out platinum albums all the time. To get remotely close to gold in today's world is a massive achievement. It's a different world altogether. We've never slacked off – we've always enjoyed writing, we've always enjoyed being in the studio. There's never been like, ‘Oh, God, we've got to make another record.’ There's always been this genuine desire. The hunger has never left us. When you wake up, it's like, ‘Another heavy metal day. What are we going to do today?’ It's great. As a 62-year-old man, I'm just really pleased that I'm still feeling that way about my metal. I'm a metal head – I'm sixty-fucking-two, it's incredible. That side of Priest is just solid as ever. We're eager to keep going down the metal coalmine and seeing if we can hack up some diamonds.”

Recorded in May of 2012 at London’s famed Hammersmith Odeon, the “Epitaph” DVD features the final show of the band's last-ever world tour. So, will Judas Priest support a new album with some live dates?

“I think that's the other reason why we're making sure we get this [album] right. And we will get it right,” says Halford. “But I don't think we're going to go out and do another 18-month/two-year trek, straight through. We'll probably do Europe, and then we'll take not an extensive break, but a longer break than we would normally do. I mean, normally you do Europe, and then two days later you're doing a month in the States. We'll put a buffer in there, for lots of different reasons. But we were being sincere, that there were some places on that last Epitaph tour that we may not be able to get to as quickly and often as we would wish – for lots of different reasons. But if everybody's patient – which we know our metalheads are – then we'll come to you and we'll play. You'll get another dose of Priest.”

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford is sharing an update on the band’s follow-up to 2008's "Nostradamus."

"The writing process is complete," Halford tells Billboard. "Now it's the painstaking work of making sure that you get every single note, every single nuance of the vocal, every tiny aspect...right. We're still tracking (instruments). It's just a very laborious but enjoyable part of making the record."

Priest is producing the album itself at the moment, but Halford notes that "there's always a possibility somebody might come in to overview some of the things we're doing."

Halford describes the project's sound as "hard. It's heavy. It's something we think our Priest fans will be thrilled with. We know we have a reputation to maintain, and we know we have to deliver something really strong and solid. The album is going to be full of all the great things you love about Judas Priest -- I don't think I can say anything more than that without being hung, drawn and quartered."

Judas Priest plans to tour in support of the album, though not quite as extensively as it has in the past. Next year will also mark the 40th anniversary of the group's debut album, "Rocka Rolla", which Halford says will be commemorated in some way.

"We'll be working furiously and manically in the studio cellars and conjuring up some special moments for next year, I'm sure of that," he says. "That just makes the (fantasy camp) another tremendous moment for Priest, to be in Vegas kicking of the 40th anniversary year, meeting our fans, making this special metal moment happen together."

Last week, Judas Priest announced a spring 2014 appearance at Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas.

Set for the weekend of February 27, 2014, Hell Bent For Vegas will feature four of the five members of Judas Priest (guitarist Glenn Tipton is unavailable while mixing the new album project) jamming with camp attendees, along with special guests Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, ex-Ozzy Osbourne), Queensryche singer Geoff Tate, and more.

For someone that hates "bonehead chugga-chugga" music as much as Tate, this must be pure agony. But maybe he can give a seminar on destroying your career and reputation. He's sure trying to cash in on that name as much as he can before the court date in January.

(hennemusic) Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford told Artisan News on Monday at the Ronnie James Dio his Is Your Life Tribute Concert and Awards Gala in Hollywood that the band has completed work on a new album.

"The record is finished; it's absolutely finished as of today," said. "It's a relief. It's a relief because whenever Priest makes an album, like any band, you put your heart and soul into it; it is that typical 'blood, sweat and tears.' It's not an easy thing to do 40 years later. But Priest has always been up for the challenge of that, and it's one of things that we love to do more than anything else as we move on through our metal years. So this is a great time for Priest: 40th anniversary, a brand new record. Life couldn't be better."

A few months ago, Halford described the follow-up to 2008's "Nostradamus" as "hard. It's heavy. It's something we think our Priest fans will be thrilled with. We know we have a reputation to maintain, and we know we have to deliver something really strong and solid. The album is going to be full of all the great things you love about Judas Priest."

(hennemusic) Judas Priest recently completed work on a new album, and the band are now teasing a forthcoming official announcement about the project. "The wait is nearly over," posted the group. "New album coming soon. More to be revealed shortly."

(hennemusic) Judas Priest have posted the cover art and are streaming the title track to their forthcoming new album, "Redeemer Of Souls", which will be released in North America on July 15th.

The news follows a week-long countdown to the official new album announcement, as the band have slowly revealing the project's cover art on their Facebook page over the past few days.

"We are revved up and ready to unleash the Priest one more time for our metal fans around the world," posted the group. "So here's a track for you to listen to entitled Redeemer Of Souls' from our new album of the same title." The new song is being released digitally today (April 29th).

A few months ago, singer Rob Halford described the follow-up to 2008's "Nostradamus" as "hard. It's heavy. It's something we think our Priest fans will be thrilled with. We know we have a reputation to maintain, and we know we have to deliver something really strong and solid. The album is going to be full of all the great things you love about Judas Priest."

Guitarist Glenn Tipton had this to say, "Sometimes in the past we may have come under fire for being too adventurous musically - so we have listened!! From start to finish 'Redeemer of Souls' is 13 songs of pure classic Priest metal!!"

Probably they decided they didn't fit with the overall flow and theme of the album.

Back in the day, such tracks would get released as B-sides. but if you're not releasing singles, then...

"But Priest has always been up for the challenge of that. It's one of the things we love to do more than anything else. This is a great time – 40th anniversary, a brand new record. Life couldn't be better."

Judas Priest are previewing a clip from “March Of The Damned”, one of the tracks found on their forthcoming album, “Redeemer Of Souls.”

Due July 15 in North America (see international list of release dates here),the project will be issued in a standard version and a deluxe edition with five bonus tracks.

“Redeemer Of Souls” marks guitarist Richie Faulkner's studio debut with Priest; he replaced founding member K.K. Downing following his retirement in 2011.

"We feel 'Redeemer of Souls' reinforces our passion for what we believe in from the Judas Priest style heavy metal," said the band.

The group recently released the title track as the album’s lead single.
