No Doubt begin work on new album

No Doubt have begun work on their new album.

Members Tony Kanal, Tom Durmont and Adrian Young are currently working on demos without the presence of singer Gwen Stefani because she is the late stages of her pregnancy.

“We’re taking it very slowly,” bassist Kanal told MTV.com. “(We’re) kind of just going in and writing here and there. Right now, it’s all about the music and being as creative as possible.”

He continued: “We’ve been doing this so long that if we try to set a place to go to, we’ll never get there. So we’re letting that road unfold in front of us. I’m sure we’ll have the same influences, all the reggae and rock stuff we grew up on, and a bunch more, so we can go in a different direction as well.”

The album with be the first new material from the band since 2001’s ’Rock Steady’.

No Doubt head into the recording studio

No Doubt have revealed that they will return to the studio next week to record their first studio album in six years, despite the fact that their lead singer Gwen Stefani will not be able to join them.

Stefani is currently touring her latest solo album ’The Sweet Escape’ in North America, but the remaining members of the band have revealed this won’t stop them heading into the studio.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, drummer Adrian Young explained: "The three of us are going to lay down some songs with music only. When she gets done with the tour we’ll all be there to do it. We’ve probably got four albums' worth of ideas demoed."

He furthered that the new material will be "unlike anything else we've ever made."

The record is expected to be ready for release in 2008.

No Doubt go ska for new album?

Sep 8, 2007

No Doubt are reportedly going back to their ska roots for their forthcoming album.

As previously reported members Tony Kanal, Tom Durmont and Adrian Young have been working on new material for the band since 2006.

Stefani hinted the album would go back to No Doubt's original sound. She said: “I'm coming to the end of a chapter, doing my own dance records.

"In the fall, I'll record with No Doubt. I don't want to say for sure that it'll be ska but that it is where we started.”

No Doubt set to reform for live shows

Nov 24, 2008

No Doubt have announced plans for a comeback tour next year.

The Los Angeles band revealed their plans through an instant message transcript on their official website, but gave no specific dates.

The four-piece are also currently working on a new record, their first since 2001's 'Rock Steady'.

"I have cabin fever. Maybe we should play some shows or something?" guitarist Tom Dumont wrote before singer Gwen Stefani replied: "I think we should go out now. I don't think we should wait. Pack up the babies and get a bunch of nannies. So fun! Would be so inspiring to get out there and play all those songs again.

"I think that if we go out on tour it will inspire us to write. I need to see the fans out there."

The band haven't performed live since 2004. Since then Stefani has released two solo albums, while the other members have pursued solo projects and session work.

No Doubt postpone new album plans
Band say they aren't likely to release any new material until 2010

December 17, 2008

No Doubt drummer Adrian Young says the band are unlikely to release any new material in 2009.

The ska-influenced outfit announced they were reforming in November, with frontwoman Gwen Stefani also hinting that they would release a new album.

However, speaking to MTV News, Young said the band would continue working on fresh material while they tour, but a new release will still some way from completion.

"We've been working on a new record off and on now for a bit of time, and we're going to continue to work on a new record next year," he said.
"We're going to start touring in the spring of 2009 through the summer, and we're going to continue to work on music while we're travelling."

Young said that the band plan to install a mobile studio on their tour bus.

So in other words, instead of an album of fresh new material we can eventually expect a live album of familiar songs in familiar arrangements.

They'll be at Jones Beach on June 27, might have to look into getting tickets. I wonder if they'll play Gwen's solo material?

Good question. My guess is 'no'. Saw them at Jones Beach about 7 years ago with Lit (a great band IMO) opening. Excellent show!

I'd say they're going the Aerosmith route of touring with no new material, but even Aerosmith puts out a couple of songs every few years on a compilation album.

Aerosmith and No Doubt did their last albums of new material in 2001.

This really makes me nostalgic for the days when bands put out an album every year or every couple of years.

Well, they've recorded one new track, at least. But it's a cover:

No Doubt offer free music to concert ticket buyers

No Doubt have announced that they will give away their entire digital music catalog to fans who purchase top-tier tickets to their upcoming reunion tour.

In a statement issued today (March 3), the band said that each person who purchases the top level tickets will receive the package that includes more than 80 songs from the band's seven studio albums. It will also include a new cover of Adam & The Ants' 'Stand And Deliver', which the band will perform for the first time on the television show 'Gossip Girl' on May 11.

"Since the band is heading back to the road, we wanted to find a cool way to get people listening to our music and stoke them with a great deal at the same time," guitarist Tom Dumont said in a statement.

Tickets for the massive North American summer tour go on sale this Saturday (March 7).

Included in the free download package are:

'The Singles 1992-2003' (2003)
'Everything In Time (B-Sides, Rarities, Remixes)' (2003)
'Rock Steady' (2001)
'Return Of Saturn' (2000)
'Tragic Kingdom' (1995)
'The Beacon Street Collection' (1995)
'No Doubt' (1992)
'Stand And Deliver'

So, if you pay an outrageous ticket price, you can get mp3 downloads of the band's entire catalog.

No Doubt working on album inspired by ''80s one-hit wonders'
Gwen Stefani says the band are being influenced by 'the worst' of the decade

February 17, 2010
http://www.nme.com/news/no-doubt/49809

No Doubt's Gwen Stefani has revealed that the sound of their new album is being influenced by '80s music, particularly "one-hit wonders".

Currently working on their first album since 2001's 'Rock Steady', Stefani explained how they've been inspired by the music from that decade.

"The last few weeks we've been listening to the worst of the '80s, in the sense of bad but good," she told Rolling Stone. "Pop songs, one-hit wonders, nifty songs, things like that. You just go back and find things that you love, and try to figure out how they made them."

The as-yet-untitled album is due out later this year and, while the group reformed back in 2008, work on their comeback album has been slow due to Stefani being pregnant with her second child.

"They were doing stuff before, but things are kind of starting over," she admitted. "We might re-visit some of that stuff, but it's the same old chase. It doesn't matter how we get there – we want to get there, we will, and we're having fun doing it."

Stand & Deliver -- their cover of the classic Adam & The Ants anthem -- was great, though the online version of it sounded a bit thin due, I expect, to being well below average bitrate. And their live performance of it, with guests Shirley Manson and someone else just as famous, was fantastic as well.

I hope it is on the album. As an antfan, I swear they did it justice.

I think No Doubt and Stefani are at their best when channeling their inner New Wavers ("Hella Good" for instance) so I have high hopes for this.

No Doubt planning world tour

No Doubt are planning a world tour following reunion dates last year.

The band played shows in North America when they reunited, but Tony Kanal has indicated they now plan to tour further.

"I think it'll [a tour] be even bigger and when I say bigger I mean more shows and around the world," the bassist said of potential dates, adding that the band are currently writing a sixth studio album.

"I swear, we're having more fun than we've ever had writing a record before," Kanal told Billboard.com.

He added: "I think [because] it's been a while, but also because we're older. The fact that we're still doing it together after 24 years - you know, working on music - I think we really appreciate that."

The group's last studio album was 2001's 'Rock Steady'.

No Doubt begin recording first new album since 2001

No Doubt have entered the studio to work on their first new album since 2001's 'Rock Steady'.

Guitarist Tom Dumont took to Twitter to inform fans of the band's plans, explaining that Gwen Stefani and co already had a slew of new songs written and ready to be laid down.

Writing yesterday (January 3) at Twitter.com/nodoubt he explained: "Holidays over. 2010 done. 10 new songs written. No Doubt's 2011 New Year's resolution: to record our new album... beginning today!"

Dumont later added: "To clarify: last year we were in studio mostly writing, just some recording. Starting today back in the studio, mostly recording."

In September last year, No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal revealed that the band are planning a world tour to coincide with the release of their new album.

No Doubt close to completing new album sessions

No Doubt have said they are close to completing their forthcoming album – their first since 2001's 'Rock Steady'.

The band have teamed with Mark 'Spike' Stent – who has previously worked with Madonna – for their new record, which is expected to be wrapped up in two months.

They have been working on the record since 2008 but took a break after singer Gwen Stefani became pregnant. The band have spent the bulk of 2011 recording nine tracks at Stent's Santa Monica studio.

"It's so exciting to have a record coming out," Stefani told Rolling Stone. "And we all want the same thing: for it to be modern and catchy and addictive. Once you make music that connects with people, it's like you taste blood — you can't go back."

After recording two solo albums – 2004's 'Love. Angel. Music. Baby' and 2006's 'The Sweet Escape', Stefani has admitted it felt right to come back to the band.

"I had gone on my tortured journey of working with outside songwriters," she said. "I would throw up if someone made me do that again."

"Writing with other people is a learning experience," bassist Tony Kanal added. "But when you come back, and you're sitting in a room together, it feels like home."

Tracks slated for inclusion on the record include 'One More Summer' and 'Settle Down'.

No Doubt team up with Beyonce and Nicola Roberts producers on new album

No Doubt have announced that they have teamed up with production team Major Lazer on their forthcoming album.

The band posted a picture on their Twitter of themselves with super producers Diplo and Switch, who make up Major Lazer.

They wrote: "Happening in the studio right now" and revealed the track they were working on was called 'Push And Shove' with the production superstars.

Major Lazer have recently collaborated with Beyonce on 'Run The World (Girls)' as well as with Nicola Roberts on her debut solo single 'Beat Of My Drum'.

Last month, No Doubt said they were close to completing their new album, which will be their first since 2001's 'Rock Steady'. They have been working with Madonna and Depeche Mode producer Mark 'Spike' Stent for their new record, which is expected to be wrapped up in the next two months.

They have been working on the record since 2008, but took a break after singer Gwen Stefani became pregnant. The band have spent the bulk of 2011 recording tracks at Stent's Santa Monica studio, with songs on their new album rumoured to include 'One More Summer' and 'Settle Down'.

Gwen Stefani: 'No Doubt's songwriting process is desperate'

No Doubt have spoken out about their first studio album since 2001's 'Rock Steady', with singer Gwen Stefani calling the band’s songwriting process "desperate".

The band are set to release their sixth album later this year. The album will include songs entitled 'Undercover', 'Settle Down', 'Easy', 'Heaven' and 'Dreaming The Same Dream', the latter of which Stefani called a "prom song". When asked if the new record has a theme, Stefani replied:

Quote:
We wish we were good enough to craft it and have a vision, but our songwriting process is sort of desperate – we're just praying that something comes out.

Stefani also revealed that songwriting sessions for the album would take place from 5pm until midnight, after she had cared for her children during the day, as well designing for her fashion line LAMB and "working out". "That's the horror of any creative person," she told Q Magazine, "to have to be creative between certain times."

Stefani also said that she'd been taking songwriting advice from Prince:

Quote:
Prince once said to me, 'Do you ever just try and write a hit song? You know, instead of trying to be all arty about it?'
