Country leaning?? (that's frightening!).
Agree with you on her looks, but though I own every cd the woman has released (& a few of the myriad of live dvd's) I'm starting to think she's entering Melissa Etheridge territory for me: too many cd's that sound very similar & while not bad will never be played again. Though since I hate country, this one may not fall into that category for me, depending on just how country it is.

Sheryl has been moving the country music route for a little while now. I think she realizes that her brand of music doesn't stand much of a chance on the pop charts these days, so she's just heading in a direction where she can get more attention from adults. She's been making appearances with established country artists and at country related functions, so this move has been obviously planned for a while. Frankly, I think it's something that she could do well and I've become kind of tired with the sameness of her recent releases.

I'm going to need to hear this one before I buy it.
Crow's becoming more & more like Melissa Etheridge for me: I like everything she's done, & can't imagine playing any of it very often (other than possibly the 1st album)

This bites. I don't like country.
No one should, Geff.
But today's country isn't really country. It's rock country. She's just tailoring her sound to sell more units and appeal to a bigger audience, that's all. But I lost interest in her music a few albums back and this "country" thing isn't gonna bring me back.

Oddly, there is a difference. Marshall Tucker & pre Joe Walsh Eagle were country rock, as was Poco.
Lady Anti-Music is rock country.
I can take same rock country, NRPS & some Grateful Dead would be 2 examples (though I'm not a huge NRPS fan or a huge fan of the country side of the Dead).

Country rock and rock country seem more like marketing terms to me. There are rock country artists today who might have been Elektra/Asylum signings in our teens. I wonder if Alabama, for example, would have gotten AOR play in the 1970s.
