This is a very nice album and thankfully not what could have been another Fiery Furnaces release. Not that I don't like the group's material, it's just that I think there is a lot of fat that could be trimmed from their songs.

Eleanor's solo is nice and lean compared to the FF. I love the urban setting songs, such as "Scenes from Bensonhurst", "Owl’s Head Park" and especially the funky "Roosevelt Island" which is one of my favorite songs of the year now. There's not a bad track here and this is an album I'll be coming back to again & again. I hope the pop sensibility of these tracks rub off on the next FF release.

I had never really heard the Fiery Furnaces, but thought I'd give this a chance after listening to the first single, "My Mistakes", which was a pleasant surprise. I like this quite a bit, and I agree with Lawrence that "Roosevelt Island" is a funky delight! Honestly, there isn't a weak track in the bunch. By the way, I went back and listened to a few FF albums, and I'm not too crazy about them!
