Queensrÿche have set Dedicated to Chaos as the name of their new album, to be released later this year on Roadrunner/Loud & Proud.

The album was recorded in Queensrÿche’s hometown of Seattle and was produced by Kelly Gray, who also produced the band’s previous album, American Soldier, and the first guitarist to step into the shoes of founder Chris DeGarmo.

Singer Geoff Tate said of the album, “Modern life moves fast. Plug into the rhythm of the now with our 12th studio album, Dedicated to Chaos. The clash and slash of musical experimentation anchored by the pulse of digital code.” Tate remained tight-lipped on what to expect sonically from Dedicated to Chaos, although he did offer one hint: “Enjoy – headphones are a must.”

Queensrÿche are planning a tour in support of the album.

FYI, pre-orders placed through the band's official website for either edition also include an autographed poster.

So, the special edition adds 4 tracks, but that's still a one CD release?

The 12 track version looks to be about 55 minutes so they can likely fit the 16 track version onto one cd. I like Queensryche but given the spottiness of their recent output I think 16 tracks (unless they are Mindcrime quality) might be a chore to get through.

Holy God is this abominable. Listened to it on Rhapsody after reading the endless savage reviews on Amazon.com and all I can say is the downward spiral continues. Geoff Tate leads the band into an ill-advised mix of crap and more crap.
They're trying to be hip one minute, U2 the next and then God knows what. Very little rocks, not much in the way of solos (a bit here and there). Beware!
Already used copies are in the $5 range and I suspect you will find them for less really quick.
If your idea of unintentionally hilarious spoken word parts and Tate playing sax are good ideas, then more power to you. I've tried to defend them, but I can do so no more.

Uh oh. I have a lot of common likes/dislikes with IP. His review does not bode well for me. I thought the last album was just OK - not horrible but not great either. Was hoping for something heavier with this one. I coulda just wasted $12....actually wait - I haven't opened mine yet. I will scout around & just check it out on the 'net first - if it stinks as bad as it appears I will just return this. I'm not looking for U2, hipness, or sax playing from Queensryche. I want hard rock.

Thank God for the internet. And for IP's warning!

In 2 seconds I was able to find a version on-line to check out....."simply godawful" is the nicest thing I can say about this. I actually liked the first track which is very unQueensyrchist, kind of poppy and with a one note solo inspired by Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl. Other than I can't stand any of this. I am SO GLAD I did not open my copy yet and I read IP's comment before doing so. Am returning it and getting my $$ back. May never buy another QR album again. This is their worst ever. I don't know how they can recover from this mess - other than Degarmo rejoining and taking over.

Sounds like a revisit to the Frontier/Q2K sound... certainly not my favorite part of the band's discography. Hoping it's a grower, but we'll see.

I'm so glad you saw it before you opened it-I was hoping I could save someone the agony. Tate has destroyed this band over the last decade and many fans have long since abandoned them, and then we had the "Queensryche Cabaret" tour last year which was sad, but this album is so awful.
What are they thinking? Man, they miss DeGarmo so damn much. I'll try to listen again, but I'm not sure I have the strength.

This album has gotten some of the funniest and most savage reviews I've seen in a while and is further proof that Geoff Tate has destroyed the band. Reading this interview I 100% understand why they're a total joke now.

Tate: ‘Bonehead’ rock fans must embrace new ideas
Queensryche singer insists too much music is based on entry-level sound and says band’s latest record isn’t really an album

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Playlist: Tate, centre, with Queensryche
Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate has slated rock and metal fans who don’t like crossover genres are mentally lazy – and too much music in the genre comes out of “boneheaded” concepts.

The band recently released their thirteenth LP, Dedicated to Chaos; but Tate says it’s not really an album, because the format is dead.

The singer tells BraveWords: “It’s more of a playlist than an album. You can put them in any order you want – alphabetically if it works for you.

“The world is moving away from the concept of an album. The whole music industry model has outlived its time.

“It’s a fascinating time to be alive: to be able to comment musically on an event or a thought and immediately have it out there in the world is an incredibly artistic move, and very satisfying.”

Tate says his passion for reinvention has powered much of the material on Dedicated to Chaos, including the track Wot We Do, which employs elements of hip-hop.

Asked if rock fans can handle the leap he tells Classic Rock: “I think they should – rock is pretty much dead. If you look at the numbers it’s definitely not the music of the times any more.

“If it’s going to keep moving bands need to embrace new ideas. There’s a lot of elements to rock which, mentally speaking, are kind of boneheaded.

“Like the whole ‘chunk-chunk-chunk guitar progression: that’s stuff you play when you’re learning the damn thing. You would hope bands would get beyond that.”

Tate isn’t one of those who hark back to the glory days of vinyl, which is one of the reasons Queensryche’s record has been engineered to sound best in headphones.

He says: “People today are plugging in, switching between their iPod and phone, back and forth, listening to music all day long. That’s the way people listen now.

“I don’t miss vinyl and I don’t miss the past much. I love the age we live in: every day there’s something new to wrap your head around. I want to keep embracing new ideas, technology, works of art, literature, films.

“If you stop doing that your brain gets lazy.”
