Review
"An 80-minute odyssey of flailing and howling that could be the most epic punk album ever." 9 of 10 stars --Spin

Product Description
Their third album, the 18-song, 78-minute David Comes To Life, is a rock opera, an album set to a play. Though no less monumental, it is far more melodic than their break through The Chemistry of Common Life. There are more female vocals, which work in perfect contrast to Damian Abraham's highly effective wounded bull growl.

1. Let Her Rest
2. Queen Of Hearts
3. Under My Nose
4. The Other Shoe
5. Turn The Season
6. Running On Nothing
7. Remember My Name
8. A Slanted Tone
9. Serve Me Right
10. Truth I Know
11. Life In Paper
12. Ship Of Fools
13. A Little Death
14. I Was There
15. Inside A Frame
16. The Recursive Girl
17. One More Night
18. Lights Go Up

Don't let the punk/hardcore tag fool you, and don't let the vocals (which are more H. Rollins circa Black Flag/early B. Mould) put you off. This band had transcended the genre limitations of the punk form and rocketed into their own place. The layers and layers of guitars, the intricate ensemble playing (no matter how hard and fast) is astounding. And they never forget about songs, because above all else, this is a pop album, a very loud fast pop album, but still. Yeah, rock opera, blah blah, it gets somewhat incomprehensible as these things do, but 10 minutes in you won't care. A lot of risk taking here, and the failures just make it all the more endearing. Overstuffed for sure, but the reach of this band is cause for joy, as is this album. Zen Arcade was the last album I can think of that tried to push past what a band of this type is expected to be, and just go for it. A huge success artistically, and maybe a game changer for the band. Great stuff, for sure.
