My Morning Jacket to release 'wholesome' new album in 2011
My Morning Jacket have revealed that their next album will be released in May next year.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Jim James explained that the band had finished recording five new songs and that the follow-up to 2008's 'Evil Urges' would be released "mid-next year, probably May".
"I'm really excited," James said. "It's all live, so the vibe is really, really good, really wholesome. There's something about it."
He added: "We've done stuff mostly live but then you do some overdubs, some vocals, or whatever. But we're trying to do everything other than maybe strings live. There's just something old and dirty about it."
Set to be the group's sixth studio effort, the as-yet untitled album is being recorded in a Louisville church with producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists).
Currently on tour in the US, the Kentucky band will also play a five-night New York residency in October.
Meanwhile, guitarist Carl Broemel will release a new solo album, 'All Birds Say', on August 31.

Just saw them last night at San Diego State. Yesterday was the start of their summer tour, and they came out the gate BLAZING. Easily one their finest performances; they were so having so much fun with each other and that energy translated to the audience. Kudos also to the engineers - their stage mix was crystalline. Catch 'em if you can!

My Morning Jacket going 'back to our roots' for new album
My Morning Jacket have revealed that they are going back to their roots for their next album.
Set to be the group's sixth studio effort, the as-yet untitled album is being recorded in a Louisville church with producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists).
"It's worlds apart from what we were doing with [2008's] 'Evil Urges'," bassist Tom 'Two-Tone Tommy' Blankenship told Spin.com. "This time it's just the five of us; the control room is only separated by a curtain. We're going back to a similar vibe that we had on the first three records. It's definitely more laid back than it's been in a while."
He added: "It's got that vibe to it where it sounds likes everybody is in the same room. Even if someone is only playing on half of a song, you can still feel their presence."
Currently "a third of the way through", the bassist also explained that they have finished five songs, including tracks called 'Circuital' and 'Wonderful'.
As previously reported, frontman Jim James said the album would be out "mid-next year, probably May".
Meanwhile, My Morning Jacket will begin a five-night New York residency on October 18.

Not much info yet, but I did find a plain-paper advance CD of the new song "Holdin' On To Black Metal" at my brick and mortar. MMJ's website will be offering a free download of the song on April 12th.
This year is starting to heat up. New Steve Earle, Warren Haynes AND My Morning Jacket? F**K YEAH!

Weekday? What day is this?
I've been listening to this album for the past couple of days and I love it. There are some songs on it that really, really stick with me. "Circuital" "Holding on to Black Metal" "Outta My System" (which gives me a Beach Boys feel). Highly recommended.

Only heard this album twice but it is already on my best list for 2011. This band has never disappointed me.
By the way, did you ever hear Jim James released EP covering George Harrison songs, entitled Tribute To. A very nice disc and done with respect and love.

I haven't but I'll be sure to check it out. Honestly, this is my first exposure to the band. A friend of mine reviewed them for a new music site, and I decided to give it a listen. Blown away. Where have I been?
