This "first new material in ten years" is very misleading. Since 2001 he has released a double disc blues album Dancing down the stony road, a jazz/blues album The Blue Jukebox, two instrumental albums, an 11 disc boxset Blue Guitars charting the development of the blues containing over 130 new songs and a triple disc box set of new material. That's all not counting a live album and a few new tracks on Best of compilations...
That must be about new 200 songs in the last decade..

I was a late convert to Chris Rea, but count me in as one who will be checking this out. I've become quite a fan!

Picked this up...have not watched the movies but the album has disappointed me. Three of the tracks have appeared before on older albums (one each on Road to Hell II, Blue Guitars and Hofner Blue notes). Most of the rest blend into one noise with little standing out.
Pains me to say it but, words that came to mind when listening include: Bereft of ideas lyrically & musically. Lazy. Churned out this album with little thought so Rhino would release his movies with it. His vocab remains very limited. If I hear blue/blues/sky/grey/wind/dancing shoes again I'll explode.
What a pity. A great talent but lacking quality control.
