Product Description
The long-awaited fourth album from New York's INTERPOL finds them exploring dark musical landscapes of layered depth and intensity. In contrast to 2007's Our Love To Admire, this self-titled opus hangs together as an album, a set of very different songs that thematically connect. From the highly melodic 'Barricade' and 'Lights' through the snarling 'Memory Serves' and the extraordinary triptych of connected tracks that close the album, Interpol have never made work this emotionally resonant or packed with crescendos.

Mixer Alan Moulder has brought the rhythm section back to the fore, anchoring a thicket of orchestral sound that brings to mind touchstones from black metal to '70s art rock, but always remains identifiably Interpol. Hypnotic, bizarre, always indelible, Interpol is the band's magnum opus.

1. Success
2. Memory Serves
3. Summer Well
4. Lights
5. Barricade
6. Always Malaise (The Man I Am)
7. Safe Without
8. Try It On
9. All Of The Ways
10. The Undoing

Interpol begin work on 'vital' fourth album

Interpol have begun rehearsing new songs set for their fourth studio album.

In a note posted up on the New York band's official website, Interpolnyc.com, the band described the new sounds as sounding "vital" and claimed they felt like a "new band".

They wrote: "Now the band has reconvened, and we are rehearsing new songs. We find ourselves marvelling at the tremendous focus that has defined our early rehearsals for this, our fourth effort.

"All kidding aside, we feel like a new band. Once again, we have no concept to this batch of songwriting. There is rarely any intention to this process. We just make the music.

"And without going into too much detail, the songs sound vital. It's as though we've hit upon a balance between our urgency and our calm. And true to our better work, this is music that unravels over time.

"We anticipate that, once it's done, you high-minded folks will welcome the music...into your bedrooms... to swagger and breathe... It's still early, yet, though. We will keep you posted."

The band's next album will be the follow-up to 2007's 'Our Love To Admire'.

New Interpol album expected for early 2010

Interpol have revealed that their new album will be released in early 2010 - and is a bit of a retro affair.

The record will be the follow-up to 2007's 'Our Love To Admire' and the group's fourth studio album, and the band's drummer Sam Fogarino has revealed how the sound of the LP is a return to that of their 2002 debut album 'Turn On The Bright Lights'.

"The new record falls back towards the first," he told Paste Magazine. He added: "In trying to move forward, there was an unspoken realisation that you can’t let go of your sonic-defining tag."

Although a release date, title or tracklisting is still yet-to-be announced, Forgarino also revealed how the band had reverted back to their early sound.

"There was an effort in Daniel [Kessler]'s guitar tone; he rediscovered it playing in his loft space for a year without anybody," he explained. "The quality of that tone, played in a big room, is just beautiful. It creates an atmosphere."

Interpol working on 'orchestral' sounding album

Interpol's Paul Banks has said that the band are working on an "orchestral" sounding new album.

The frontman explained that the follow-up to 2007s 'Our Love To Admire' was heading in a more classical direction.

"There's some really classical stuff going on," Banks told BBC 6 Music. "[bassist] Carlos [Dengler] has gone to total new levels of crazy sophisticated orchestration."

Due out in early 2010, the yet-to-be-named album is set to be a "step forward" for the band, despite reports from the group's drummer Sam Fogarino, that the album would sound like their 2002 debut album 'Turn On The Bright Lights'.

"What we've worked on is a real step forward and just very different and very relaxed in what we're doing," Banks explained. "It certainly doesn't sound like anything we've ever done before, to me."

Interpol's Carlos Dengler quits the band

Interpol's Carlos Dengler has quit the group, the band have announced.

The New York outfit explained in a mailout that the bassist had contributed to the group's recently completed fourth album, but would no longer continue his involvement in Interpol.

"After the completion of the album, Carlos informed the rest of us that he would be leaving the band. He has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals," they wrote.

"This separation is amicable, and we whole-heartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual."

Dengler has recently been involved in soundtrack work for film, television and adverts which he has showcased at http://www.carlosdengler.com. Interpol went on to say the band will tour with a series of replacements for the bassist.

"We can tell you that we have some very exciting new recruits joining us on the road. So stay tuned - we will promptly be revealing the identities of these illustrious players," they explained.

The band also spoke briefly about their fourth album, explaining: "It was recorded at Electric Lady Studios, New York, and mixed with Alan Moulder at Assault And Battery, London. The four of us poured our collective heart into this music and we are very proud and excited to share it. It's a heavy record. But we're feeling limber; and we're going to carry it all around the world for you. Touring begins this summer, so check soon for announcements and show dates."

Interpol recently released a track from their new album sessions, 'Lights', as a free download, and said they expected to preview more material soon.

Interpol to release new album 'mid September'

Interpol have announced that their forthcoming new album will be released in "mid September".

In a statement on their official website InterpolNYC.com, the group revealed that the follow-up to 2007's 'Our Love To Admire' will be self-titled.

The band's forth studio effort, the LP will be the last to feature bassist Carlos Dengler, who quit the group earlier this year.

Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York and mixed with Alan Moulder at Assault and Battery in London, the album is set to have an orchestra feel according to frontman Paul Banks.

Meanwhile, Pitchfork are reporting that David Pajo, who has worked with the likes of Stereolab, Bonnie Prince Billy and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has joined the group to replace Dengler.

Interpol are set to tour the UK and Ireland later this year, while they have had to cancel a series of upcoming US shows after U2 postponed dates on their own US jaunt.

Interpol: 'We're not afraid of working on new music without Carlos Dengler'

Interpol have revealed that they aren't afraid of making new music without bassist Carlos Dengler, who left the group earlier this year.

In an interview with Spinner, drummer Sam Fogarino admitted that while the group have no plans to work on the follow-up to their as-yet unreleased self-titled album, when they do they will "rely on other strengths" from within the band.

"I don't think we're afraid to work on music without him," he said. "But it's just so far away. Who knows how we'll feel in a year and a half or two years."

He added: "As to whether [Carlos' talent] will be missed, yeah, how can it not be? The band will just rely on other strengths in the future. Emotionally, it will be missed but pragmatically, no. We're all pretty capable musicians."

The follow-up 2007's 'Our Love To Admire', the self-titled LP is the last to feature Dengler, who as well as playing bass on their forthcoming new album, was also involved with many of the arrangements and orchestration.

"He started leaning toward that application, kind of composing harmonies on keyboards early on," Fogarino explained. "He started to, I think, feel more redeemed as a musician doing that. The bass became more a duty, a function, than a passion. He's always claimed to never have been a bass player, which is strange to me because he's one of the best bass layers I've ever played with."

Interpol's Paul Banks calls Carlos D an 'a-hole'

Interpol frontman Paul Banks has layed into ex-member Carlos Dengler, calling him an "a-hole"... but also a "genius".

Bassist Dengler left Interpol in May 2010, in what the band described as an amicable decision, and was replaced in the band’s live line-up by former Zwan and Slint bassist David Pajo.

Speaking to Australian radio station Undercover.fm, Banks answered a question about how he’d dealt with Dengler's departure by saying: "I'm the kind of person where, if I think someone is a genius, I'll put up with tonnes of crap from them."

He added: "If you're in the presence of someone who you think is a genius then you think, 'I'd rather deal with them being an a-hole than not.' It's a more rare treat, a more rare treasure, their ability. Carlos is that."

Banks also said the band had made no firm decisions about whether Pajo will join the band permanently. Secret Machines' Brandon Curtis has also joined Interpol's live line-up.

Interpol lose second bassist in a year

Interpol have lost their second bassist in under a year.

The departing Dave Pajo told fans via Interpolnyc.com that he has quit playing with the band to spend more time with his family. He'll be replaced with immediate effect with Brad Truax, who has previously played with Home and Jah Division.

It is the second time Interpol have announced the departure of a bassist in a year, with long-time member Carlos Dengler's exit confirmed in May 2010.

Pajo had been a touring member of the band since Dengler left, but didn't play on any of their records.

Interpol members Paul Banks, Dan Kessler and Sam Fogarino paid tribute to him, and denied there was a rift between either party.

"We're all friends," they stated. "It's just an out-of-the-hotel, into-the-home sorta thing. He's going to be missed to be sure. Aside from being an exceptional musician, Pajo is a wonderful person to be around."

Interpol's first gig with Truax is set to take place at Hamburg Docks on March 3.
