Earlier this year, the Killers decided to take some time off - but not Brandon Flowers. "I don't blame them for taking a break," says the singer, 27. "But I'm always writing, and I wanted to chase these songs. I also have a fear that if I stop for a year, it might mess me up." Working mostly with Madonna producer Stuart Price and Daniel Lanois in tandem (Brendan O'Brien also produced a few cuts), Flowers has made a solo set that walks a line between the Killers New Wave rock and a more rootsy sound. Named after Flamingo Road, an off-strip Vegas street that Flowers calls his "Penny Lane," the LP features tunes about his spiritual beliefs ("Playing With Fire"), regret ("Hard Enough," with Jenny Lewis) and the seedy side of his hometown ("Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas"). He'll support the disc with a tour in the fall and reconnect with the Killers in early 2011. "I seem to be at the age where you peak, and it freaks me out," he says. "I don't want to miss my chance."

Product Description
Inextricably tied to Vegas in both showmanship and ideology, Flamingo is a bombastic 12-track collection of stadium-ready songs that runs the gamut from expert pop executions and forlorn electro dirges to gospel tunes and even blues-tinged rock (read: pedal steel, and plenty of it).

1. Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas
2. Only The Young
3. Hard Enough
4. Jilted Lovers & Broken Hearts
5. Playing With Fire
6. Was It Something I Said?
7. Magdalena
8. Crossfire
9. On The Floor
10. Swallow It

Killers Singer Brandon Flowers Solo Debut Due In September
June 24, 2010 2:09 EDT

Brandon Flowers, the lead singer for The Killers will release his debut solo album titled "Flamingo" on September 14, Island Records said on Thursday.

The label said the 29-year-old frontman of the Las Vegas-based band recorded the solo album working with the same producer from The Killers' third album "Day & Age." It will feature similar full choruses and instrumentation that has become a staple of The Killers' sound.

The album's first single, "Crossfire," has already been released and other songs will include upbeat rock song "Jilted Lovers and Broken Hearts" as well as "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas," according to the record company.

Flowers, a former college dropout, became known for his glam rock image and soaring vocals after The Killers' first 2004 album "Hot Fuss" propelled them to international success with singles including "Mr. Brightside" and "All These Things That I've Done."

Flowers has said The Killers' are currently talking about when to start recording a new album after taking an indefinite hiatus after their last world tour that began in 2009 ended earlier this year.

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has admitted that recording his debut solo album 'Flamingo' was a "lonely" process.

The singer said he missed his remaining bandmates when he was laying down tracks for the record, despite the fact he had drummer Ronnie Vannucci on board.

"It was weird," he said. "Without the union and The Killers and that way of doing things and friendship. I had fun making the record but that brotherhood didn't exist. At times it was a little bit lonely."

The star also confirmed that the band have already set a date to head back into the studio to start work on the follow-up to their third album, 2008's 'Day & Age'.

"The guys have heard it and they understand why I'm doing it," he told Radio 1's Zane Lowe. "I'm already talking to them about when we're going to get into the studio again."

Flowers has pulled in a string of collaborators including producers Stuart Price, Brendan O'Brien and Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis for his first release on his own.

He added: "I'm excited. I'm a little bit nervous about it all. In the most part I'm really happy with it."

The Killers' frontman Brandon Flowers' debut solo effort has followed his band's three studio albums to the top of the UK albums chart tonight (September 12).

'Flamingo' knocked Katy Perry’s 'Teenage Dream' from the top slot. The Killers' albums 'Hot Fuss' (2004), 'Sam's Town' (2006) and 'Day & Age' (2008) all reached the summit too.
