The Coral have been working with acclaimed producer John Leckie on their new album.

Leckie, who previously worked on The Stone Roses' 1989 debut album and Radiohead's 1995 breakthrough effort 'The Bends', is with the Wirral band are in the studio working on the follow-up to 2007's 'Roots And Echoes'.

The record will be the group's first without any input from guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones, who left in 2008.

"It's a bit different because Bill's left, but it still sounds like The Coral," frontman James Skelly told NME.COM. "There's no point trying to replace him or compete [as a guitarist], it's just a different thing."

The LP, the band's fifth full-length effort, is set to be released this year, though the band are yet to confirm a date.

Oh, this looks so good. First, John Leckie, he's a legend in my book. And The Coral, underrated and deserve more attention in the states. I have a import only comp on these boys as well as the domestic releases and I really enjoy it.
Glad to see John Leckie back at work which seemed like a semi-retirement status of recent.

NEW ALBUM!!!!
Current mood: busy

Hello everyone. We've just returned from RAK studio's in london and completed seven tracks with producer John Leckie for the new album. Sessions went really well with new tracks such as 'Rovin Jewel', 'Green is the colour' 'Sandhills' and 'Butterfly House' completed, among others. We're booked in for another session soon and will hopefully have a full album by the late spring. Tracks are sounding amazing, stay tuned for more updates!

The Coral have made the title track of their new album 'Butterfly House' available as a free download.

The track is available from the band's website http://www.thecoral.co.uk now.

The group, who release the John Leckie-produced album on July 12, are touring in July. They release the first single from 'Butterfly House', '1,000 Years', on July 5.

Speaking to NME.COM about the writing process for the album, frontman James Skelly explained: "We rented old little houses in the middle of nowhere - the bits where nobody goes in the Lake District and Wales." He added that the initial sessions were somewhat relaxed. "At one point Nick [Power, keyboards] was demoing from an outside jacuzzi," he said.
