From The Artist
''The work in this collection is a result of an occasional collaboration between myself, Leo Abrahams and Jon Hopkins. The two of them are gifted young player/composers whose work, like mine, is intimately connected to the possibilities and freedoms of electronic music. Over the last few years we've worked together several times, enjoying exploring the huge new sonic territories now available to musicians. Mostly the pieces on this album resulted not from 'composition' in the classical sense, but from improvisation. The improvisations are not attempts to end up with a song, but rather with a landscape, a feeling of a place and perhaps the suggestion of an event. In a sense they deliberately lack 'personality': there is no singer, no narrator, no guide as to what you ought to be feeling. If these pieces had been used in films, the film would complete the picture. As they stand, they are the mirror-image of silent movies - sound-only movies.'' --Brian Eno

Brian Eno to release new album on Warp Records
Former Roxy Music man's album expected later in 2010

Brian Eno is set to release a solo album on the Warp Records label.

The LP is set to feature guitarist Leo Abraham and electronic composer Jon Hopkins, reports Exclaim.ca.

Abraham has said that the album "contains the fruits of several years of jams between the three of us. I've not heard anything quite like it – it sounds 'live' and 'alien' at the same time. Some things have been permitted to survive, which only Brian would have had the courage to let go, and it's so much the better for it".

Full details of the album are yet to be announced by the dance label, although a website, http://www.brian-eno.net, has been set up where fans can sign up for updates.

Eno found fame with Roxy Music in the early '70s, but is now better known as a producer, having worked with the likes of U2 and Coldplay.

Not to worry -- Warp releases a wide variety of electronic and experimental music, not just dance.

Unfortunately, a lot of good stuff gets dumped into the "electronica" and "dance" categories, which are so broad as to be almost meaningless.

There's also one more edition - Rough Trade in the UK has a two-disc version with three extra songs, two of which are from the expensive deluxe edition (Square Chain and Bimini Twist) and one that is from the Japanese version (Invisible.) That leaves only two songs that are actually exclusive to the deluxe edition, which is pretty crappy, if you ask me, for that kind of price.

I listened to the entire album on NPR's site. I'd have to say he's in cruise-control on this one, but then, I've got SO much of his material already; only something that sounds really different could grab me at this point.

I haven't sat through the NPR stream yet, but I've heard the three tracks on his site. I'm assuming this is all instrumental, no "songs"?
