Product Description
Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt's brand new album, The Open Road. A classic Hiatt record, the rockin' songs sizzle with the heat from a two-lane blacktop on a hot summer's day. Hiatt and his touring band (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O'Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars) recorded a set that gives 'Garage Rock' a new meaning. 'All the other years, my songs are about coming home,' Hiatt says. But within these 11 new songs, including 'Haulin'' and the title track 'The Open Road', home is never the destination.

1. The Open Road
2. Haulin'
3. Go Down Swingin'
4. Like A Freight Train
5. My Baby
6. Homeland
7. Wonder Of Love
8. What Kind Of Man
9. Movin' On
10. Fireball Roberts
11. Carry You Back Home

I've got my fingers crossed for this one. The last two have been disappointing, but I'm a huge fan and will buy this.

Bannings: I'll never tell
I will, too. You know after a couple of disappointing releases John can hit you with another strong one.

Wonder why he isn't touring in the US though (Feb. only Europe is listed).

My favs:

Riding with the King
Bring the Family
Slow Turning
Perfectly Good Guitar
Walk On

He's one of those rare artists who got better as he got older and moved on in his career.

The U.S. tour begins in March. I know he's coming to NH, and I'll try to see him. These are my faves:

Slow Turning
Walk On
Bring The Family
Stolen Moments
Little Head

He's a great performer too. I've seen him at least a dozen times, and probably have 40 or 50 shows on cd, and he never disappoints.

It's funny how the quality of JH's work depends on the label.
His stuff for A&M and Vanguard were amazing, everything else has been pretty underwhelming. I don't care for his stuff on Capitol at all.

My favs:

• Stolen Moments
• Perfectly Good Guitar
• Bring The Family
• Slow Turning
• The Tiki Bar Is Open
• Crossing Muddy Waters

I love his Capitol stuff, particularly Walk On. That one is one of my favorite albums of all time. Mrs. Smiff and I have particularly fond memories of listening to Mile HIgh. ;)

I'm halfway through my second listen, and I like this one. It has some excellent songs on it. He is still trying to sing in a key that's too high for him on some of the songs, but overall that's not as much of a problem as it has been on the last couple of albums. I'll give this many more listens.

I'm told he's goin to tour with Los Lobos in mid-to-late summer. BIG bang for the buck.

That would be a terrific pairing. I would love to finally catch Los Lobos.

I have not been able to find "The Open Road" in any format other than the digipak CD and MP3 download (not even on johnhiatt.com, or the New West website). Does anyone know any details on the "ltd edition box", how it differs from the regular cd, and if/when/where it will be available? Thanks.

The owner of my local indie thinks that the ltd edition box is vinyl. We both searched the Internet to try to figure out what the box was all about, and couldn't find any info. Vinyl was his best guess.

I went into Best Buy tonight to pick this one up and was told it's web-only and won't be sold in their stores. Disgusting when an artist like John Hiatt comes out with a new album and the only music retailer left in miles won't carry it in their stores.
