It’s been recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau. Says producer Kevin Shirley: “There’s still work to do, but the band portion is complete and in the can, so to speak.”
No release date or title have yet been confirmed, but Maiden will be back in live action in the UK on August 1, when they headline the last night of the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park.
We can safely assume that the album will be released this summer, to coincide with the Sonisphere appearance.

I can't wait to hear this either. Their last album is one my favorite albums by any band ever...
I know if they followup MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH with a similar heavy prog/rock long song vibe they will get criticized for making a retread record but I wouldn't mind that one bit.

Maiden frickin' rule. I loved Dance Of Death and A Matter Of Life And Death and both were very progressive. A change would be nice (as well as not having death in the title), but I'd be fine with another Prog album too. How the damn hell is this band not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? Oh yeah, because it's a joke.

Which is the joke - the band or the hall?
I had a period where I was away from Maiden for a while, but I've been getting back into them a fair bit the last few years. I caught part of Flight 666 on TV - very cool stuff (I have the DVD, just haven't watched it). I really like what they did releasing the history-type DVDs. I wasn't familiar w/the DiAnno years at all, but I have a bit more appreciation for them now.

Go figure - As much as I've tried to get into it I absolutely HATE D.O.D. I think it is even worse than NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, which up until D.O.D I thought was their low point.
I loved BRAVE NEW WORLD so I was eagerly awaiting D.O.D. but thought it was awful. A couple of my friends agreed with me and weren't even going to buy A.M.O.L.A.D., thinking Harris & co. were washed up. I was so blown away on first listen to A.M.O.L.A.D. though that I actually bought a couple extra copies & gave 'em away to friends to make them listen to it.
And I didn't agree at all with all the people pissed off about the tour, that didn't like it that they played the whole album in sequence and only played a couple of the old classics. I thought that was a brilliant move, that the record was so special it warranted a tour like that, being played as one body of work. Like Neil Young and the Greendale tour. Just that Maiden should've played a longer set instead of only like 80 minutes.
I missed that tour btw, and was bummed, but three of my fave bands were all playing on the same night! Porcupine Tree were at the Keswick, Maiden down at the E-Center in Camden, and Robin Trower at a club in Allentown. I decided to go see Trower since he hadn't played around here in years and year and years....plus I hate going to Camden...if Maiden were playing the Tower in Upper Darby I probably would've gone (but they are too big for the Tower).

Oops, guess I should qualify something. When I talk about Maiden's low point above I meant low point with Bruce Dickinson as the lead singer. Although I guess the records with either Paul Di'anno or Blaze Bayley may have their fans, I don't even consider them Maiden albums, at least not on the same level as with Bruce.
Bruce's voice is so much of the Maiden vibe for me that without him it doesn't even sound like the same band to my ears and I can't compare the Bruce-less records to the ones with Bruce.

The first two Maiden albums easily rank as some of their best work.

I've been with Maiden since the beginning, and they have always been great. The DiAnno years were incredible, while the Blaze Bailey era was a bit of a low point for them IMO. I have the albums, but it was a different Maiden. To me, Killers is a highly underrated album. One of my best memories is buying my new monster stereo system in 1982 with huge Ohm speakers and putting on the new Run To The Hills single and shaking the walls of my bedroom...

How in the world can you consder the Paul DiAnno albums with Maiden as NOT being Maiden. Impossible...

What? Those first two Maiden albums are absolute classics and I don't think there's ever been a tour where they didn't pay songs from at least one of those albums. Look at the songs: "Wrathchild", "Iron Maiden", "Phantom Of The Opera", "Killers", "Sanctuary", "Drifter", "Prowler", "Remember Tomorrow", etc. Just incredible, ground-breaking material that has lived on. Di'Anno was awesome-he just couldn't hack life on the road, but Maiden themselves feel Iron Maiden is one of the best albums they ever did. I also really like Killers though a few songs (not many) miss the mark. Without those first two albums there is no Iron Maiden!

Just the opposite for me-I didn't think much of Brave New World, though I liked some of it and I thought Dance Of Death blew that away, though I do know there are detractors for that one. I love it though. I agree No Prayer For The Dying sucks. In fact, I'd take both The X Factor and Virtual XI over that debacle.

Um, the Hall, but I think you knew that. Only Judas Priest and maybe Motorhead could qualify as a more influential and popular band in the creation of Heavy Metal as we know it today. It is absolutely ridiculous Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are not in the hall but Metallica is before them, and Metallica would acknowledge that right away while they count their millions and Lars paints away. Metallica should be in as well, but not before Maiden and Priest. But Jan Wenner beith a douche.

Sorry, just my opinion. I don't like his voice at all. The sound of Bruce wailing IS Maiden to me. The albums without him (either with Di'anno or Bayley do little for me). I actually like the Bayley albums more than the first two with Di'anno.
I was initially exposed to Maiden in 1980 when the first album came out. A friend had it and thought it was the greatest thing yet, the saviour of heavy metal etc. I didn't like it and put Maiden on my list of bands to ignore. Didn't follow them at all, didn't listen to any of the records, etc.
When PIECE OF MIND came out in 1983 I heard THE TROOPER on the radio and loved it. Had no idea who it was but found out later. So I bought the album and was blown away. Realized they had not only matured but had changed their singer from what I heard in '80. Bought NUMBER OF THE BEAST next. Holy *$&!! I knew I had discovered something really special. Bruce had brought them to a whole 'nother level IMO (the addition of Adrian Smith in the songwriting department starting with the 2nd album didn't hurt either I guess). I went back and bought the first 2 albums as well. I still don't really like those and hardly ever listen to them. NUMBER OF THE BEAST has been my fave Maiden album until MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH came out btw.
I had a similar experience with RUSH, believe it or not. My first exposure to them was on Don Kirshner on late night TV. I think they may have been doing something from 2112. Geddy's screeching hurt my ears. Their image/outfits made them look like pooftahs. I thought they were a joke. My friends & I were laughing at them during the program - I wrote them off.
Years later, and I remember this like it was yesterday, I was awoken to my clock radio, it was playing the instrumental bass break part of FREEWILL. I sat listened to the rest of song, blown away by what I was hearing, sat glued to the radio listening to another couple songs and a couple commercials hoping to hear them announce what album/group that was. Ran out and bought PERMANENT WAVES. Played it probably about 10 times back to back to back to etc. INCREDIBLE!!! After which I ran out and bought every other RUSH album as well. Couldn't believe these were the guys that I thought were a "joke".
Both RUSH and MAIDEN are two of my favorite groups today - yet I hated both of them when I was first exposed to them. Go figure.
Geddy's voice has grown on me though, I like his old screechy style and his newer mellower tone as well. I still don't dig Di'anno though and don't appreciate the 1st two Maiden albums. I guess it's not that I don't consider them Maiden albums - I just can't put them in the same category as the albums with Bruce.

My apologies Slipkid. You're right, you're entitled to your opinion. Bruce really did bring them to another level, but it all started with Paul DiAnno. Funny enough, the first time I saw Van Halen in concert...I hated DLR. I thought all he did was talk in concert and not sing. Of course I then realized that was what made DLR DLR...
It takes a bit to get used to Geddy Lee's vocal style, but he was unique.

Yeah I know, and I agree that those formative years is what made them, gave them something to build on to their success today.
Those early classic songs that you mentioned - even with Bruce singing them live - I just don't dig them. They are more embryonic "speedish" metal type stuff, not the traditional heavy metal type vibe with melody that I dig which they evolved into starting when Bruce came on board.
When Maiden do those Di'anno songs in concert today I politely applaud and wait for the stuff I dig like REVELATIONS, or NUMBER OF THE BEAST, or 2 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT, or ACES HIGH, or HALLOWED BE THY NAME, or BLOOD BROTHERS, or FEAR OF THE DARK, or WASTED YEARS, or HEAVEN CAN WAIT. or THE EVIL THAT MEN DO, or FLIGHT OF ICARUS, or anything from MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH, or - crap - basically any song from the Bruce years.
Thanks for putting in a Maiden mood though. The past couple days I was listening nonstop to Rory Gallagher. Today will be a Maiden day. I'll even start with the first 2 albums, giving them another chance...

P.S. What do people think of the import Castle Records Maiden "limited edition" CDs vs. the later USA EMI/Castle reissues?
I own all of the Castle ones (which are 2 CD sets with bonus single tracks), but not all of the USA EMI ones (which are also "enhanced" CDROMs). I never bothered buying the US versions of the 1st two albums or NO PRAYER since I'm not that into those but have all the others.

I have the Castle Records versions with the extra CD's. Stuff like Maiden Japan as an extra CD was great to have, plus various live items and B-sides. I loved the box set that was release years ago in the Eddie Coffin...the BBC Live items...all the B-Sides...and live at the Hammersmith 1982.

An interesting question. I remember the first remasters with the bonus tracks disappearing and then the latest ones came out a few years back with useless CD-ROM crap that nobody cares about and lame packaging. I wish they'd just present the albums properly-the bonus tracks and first class packaging, liner notes, etc. I have a few of the raw Power/Sanctuary ones and they sound pretty good, but I thought they could've done better. Are the 2CDs all OOP? I believe they are. Do they go for a lot and how did they sound sonically?

I'm not a big audiophile but the 2CD sets sounded great to my ears. They are hard to find these days. Was it Raw Power or Castle that had the 2CD sets? I thought it was Castle. Either way, I was glad I got the 2CD sets.
