826LA is the Los Angeles branch of the national nonprofit 826, which is dedicated to teaching creative writing to kids. In an 826LA workshop called Songwriting With the Submarines, members of the L.A. band the Submarines taught kids to write songs.

Chickens in Love, L.A. artists like She & Him, Fiona Apple, Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Antlers, Tim and Eric, and Cold War Kids cover songs written by the kids in the workshop. You can preorder a copy of the album

The
Chickens in Love compilation is tied to a couple of other related events. On the afternoon of March 6, bands from the compilation, including the Submarines and the Happy Hollows, will play
a mini-festival at the L.A. venue the Echoplex. And in
this online fundraiser, you can pledge money to the student songs you like the most. At the same page, you can watch YouTube videos of the kids in the classes singing the songs that the compilation's bands will cover.
