Sade Returning In 2010 With 'Soldier Of Love'

Sade, the "quiet storm" R&B group featuring vocalist Sade Adu, has completed its long-awaited sixth studio album. "Soldier of Love," the band's first collection of new material since 2000's "Lover's Rock" will be released Feb. 8, 2010 worldwide on Epic.

As first revealed on Billboard.com in July, Sade and her longtime bandmates including Stuart Matthewman, a.k.a. Cottonbelly, regrouped in a U.K. recording studio in June and were recording and mixing into October.

Though no details about Sade's new music have yet been revealed, one artist heard early versions of several songs: Maxwell, a fellow Sony recording artist and longtime friend and collaborator with Matthewman. The R&B singer sent a message to fans in March via his private Facebook page in which he indicated that he'd heard some of his labelmate's new recordings. "Trust me, it's so monolithic it'll shake you in your shoes!" he wrote.

Sade's 2000 release, "Lovers Rock," sold 3,881,000 copies in the U.S. and the prior album, 1992's "Love Deluxe," sold 3,407,000. Since 1985's "Diamond Life" debut, Sade has sold nearly 17 million units in the U.S. alone according to Nielsen SoundScan.

I never thought of "Sade" as a group, as the Billboard article states. I figured Sade is the singer, who has a band backing her up. Semantics, perhaps. So how's that new live album from the band "Paul McCartney"?

I think Alice Cooper was originally supposed to be the "group" name too. Never a great idea.

I've always considered her to be a solo artist too, right or wrong.

Her backing band has released two albums on their own under the name Sweetback

Sade has always been the name of the group, from album #1. The singer also goes by the name Sade, but her full name is Helen Folasade Adu.

Back about 1990, I knew a gal who named her daughter (I kid you not) Sade Sinead.

YES!!!! it is brilliant I hope the whole Album is as good ,,, once again we have an artist coming from the Grave ( well almost) to show what true songwriting ability is about,,
not this Cliches average songs from Norah Jones that everyone raves about ,, Very Bland.

Norah has radically changed her sound and her band on her new album.

Actually I find it possible to like Sade AND Norah Jones AND about a million other artists. I don't think it is necessary to tear one artist down to praise another -- it is sort of a backhanded compliment, in my opinion.

Its just that People praise Norah Jones and play about 3 of her songs over and over again ,,,, and posture that Here is the New face of music in the year 2009
But its still bland bland her sort of songs have been sung thousands of times in Bars and Jazz //Blues clubs

The Point Im making is that You cannot argue that Sade has not!! written some Beautiful melodies in her carear ., she made a style of her own and Lovers Deluxe is a Masterpiece.... we have had the Police. U2, and the Stones as well as George Michael, touring last year and they were all fantastic
The fact is these artists are from the Seventies or earlier and the best that some Protagonists today can come up with is Norah Jones

Despite the low price on amazon, I've thus far hesitated pulling the trigger on this release (as well as the new Corinne Bailey Rae) for fear that it'll surface at Best Buy or Target with exclusive tracks. Any word yet on whether we are likely to see multiple variations of this album when it is released?

i agree, the sade could have bonus tracks etc at the box stores. they will market this quite heavily IMHO.

I was in Walmart today and saw the "Soldier Of Love" CD single. It's got a second track on it called "Flow", which I don't believe is on the forthcoming album. Anyone know anything about this track?

Oops...nevermind...it was on Lover's Rock. I forgot!
