Product Description
The Strokes announce the release date for their highly anticipated fourth album, Angles, on March 22nd via RCA Records in the US, and March 21st via Rough Trade Records in the UK. Angles is the band's first new release since 2006's First Impressions of Earth and marks the ambition of that album with the immediacy of the band's earlier albums Is This It (2001) and Room On Fire (2003). In 2010, the band returned to the road, playing and headlining major festivals in the United States and UK, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Lollapalooza, Hurricane Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Rockness, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits. Time Out Chicago hailed the Lollapalooza performance as "the best set I've seen since covering Lollapalooza. Better than Radiohead in 2008. Better than... who headlined last year? ...The crowd...was euphoric."

The Strokes to work on new album

The Strokes are gearing up for work on a new album.

The band's last album was 'First Impressions Of Earth', which came out in January 2006. After touring that record, they have been very quiet.

Posting on their Official site bassist Nikolai Fraiture said: "I'd like to say that I'm still looking very forward to a fourth album release. We just need to work out a few technical kinks."

Fraiture added that "It's been a long break but much needed for us to remain together as a productive band".

No release date for the material has been set.

Albert Hammond, Jr.: 'I'm excited about next Strokes album'

The Strokes' Albert Hammond, Jr. has said that he is "excited" about the prospect about his band's next album, and that the band had been talking to each other and plan to meet up.

The guitarist said that his solo work was not to blame for the New York outfit's current inactivity, and that the perception that it was frustrated him.

The Strokes' last album, 'First Impressions Of Earth', was released in early 2006.

"I'd be very excited to see how things go," he told the Independent. "We're all in different places right now. So it would be exciting to see where we take the next album to."

He added: "We've spoken and now we're going to meet at some point. It's not my choice. Everyone think it's not me getting back because I'm making records, but it's not."

Albert Hammond, Jr.: 'New Strokes album for 2009'

Albert Hammond, Jr. has declared that The Strokes need to record a new album in 2009.

He added that the public will think the band have broken up if they do not meet that deadline, having not released an album since 'First Impressions Of Earth' in January 2006.

Speaking to Teletext's Planet Sound, Hammond, Jr. said: "If we don't make a Strokes record before that, people will think that's the end of us.

"Nothing's set, but we're definitely figuring out something to do for 2009."

The guitarist's second solo album 'Como Te Llama' was released on July 7.

Second solo album already?, yeah I can see where people might think about possible break-up. :ohyes:

The Strokes: 'We've started writing our fourth album'

The Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas and guitarist Nick Valensi have started writing new material for their band's forthcoming new album, which they are set to start work on next month.

Drummer Fabrizio Moretti, speaking after a gig with his side-project Little Joy, told BBC 6music that although the band members had not finalised plans for their fourth LP's recording, the songwriting process had begun.

"Julian has started writing and Nick has got some material as well," he said. "We're the kind of band that it's not finished until everyone's in one room and everyone's got their parts perfectly. We're a very mechanical band."

NME.COM had previously revealed that the band would reconvene in February for album sessions. "I don't think it's a reunion," Moretti said, "we're constantly in each other's lives."

The band's last album was 'First Impressions Of Earth', released in January 2006.

The Strokes writing 'Thin Lizzy and Elvis Costello-inspired' album

The Strokes have given fans an update on the recording of their fourth album.

Frontman Julian Casablancas said the band have written three new songs so far, while manager Ryan Gentles gave a more detailed breakdown of the new sessions in an email update to fans.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Casablancas said rehearsals for the album have been successful so far.

"We have three songs," he said. "Some of the new stuff has a '70s vibe, like Thin Lizzy or Elvis Costello. But then some of it is bizarre music from the future that we're trying to tone down to sound catchy. So we're trapped between the future and the '70s."

Casablancas added that the band are now finding they are more comfortable with confronting each other in the studio over how their new music should be played.

He said: "We didn't used to be honest – there would always be mini feuds over stupid shit. Now, if Nick [Valensi] and Fab [Moretti] or anyone are saying they like it fast or slow, we'll talk about it, as opposed to saying, 'Well, I never liked your sister'."

Writing to fans on a mailout, their manager Gentles explained that "after a long and much needed hibernation period", the band are now hard at work on their new album in their New York rehearsal space.

"No recording studio time has been booked yet, as they sketch out the blueprints of new songs and fine-tune plans in their rehearsal space, but it will undoubtedly be all mapped out and etched in stone at some point in the not-too-distant future," he wrote.

Gentles added that fans should not expect to hearing new material in 2009, as the album is still some way from being completed.

"I wish I could tell you that this definitely meant we can expect an album release date before the end of 2009, but it's just too soon to speculate on that for sure yet," he wrote. "One way or another...suffice to say, the work has begun!"

I love The Strokes and I worship Thin Lizzy and dig Elvis Costello, so I think I want to hear this album pretty bad! The Strokes have most excellent guitar players.

Julian Casablancas: 'New Strokes album will sound like Thin Lizzy and A-Ha'

Julian Casablancas has described The Strokes' new material as sounding like Thin Lizzy meets A-Ha.

The New York singer is going it along with solo debut 'Phrazes For The Young', but has assured fans that the band's long-awaited fourth record is not far away.

He told XFM: "I'm looking forward to it. We worked on it for months, we have most of the songs written, more than half of them written. But it's just a question of getting all five dudes in the room. I'm ready to do it. We're supposed to have done it already but it got pushed back."

Quizzed on the nature of the record, Casablancas said it was too early to tell, but that he has his own ideas of how it should sound. "I have my own personal wish that it would sound like Thin Lizzy, but if they could peer into the future and kind of have eighties melodies. Like a super-tight late seventies rock band but with A-Ha moments, if that makes sense."

He added that he has less control in the band than he might like.

"The Strokes is a tough musical jury,” he explained, "so if something is going to survive it's got to pretty much please five incredibly picky dudes. That's the great thing about the band but on the other hand sometimes it can be stifling for certain parts.

"You might have a vision for a part but you can't express what you want to look like in its final state. And it's hard to even get to the final state because before it works, people are like 'I don’t like it', so it's hard to work an idea through when people are fighting you."

The Strokes planning to record new album in January 2010

The Strokes have indicated they are to start work imminently on their new album.

And according to bandmates Julian Casablancas and Nikolai Fraiture they could be doing so as soon as January next year.

"While the guys are in LA, I went to scout some studios in NYC with Ryan [Gentles - The Strokes manager] today for what looks like Jan recording!!! mood = f***ing excited." Fraiture wrote on his Twitter.

But Casablancas said the plans weren't set in concrete, but also revealed January sessions had been discussed.

"We're supposed to get back together in January but don't hold me to that," Casablancas told Pitchfork. "We've been trying to do it for years. I'm always available and they know that but getting together is tough," he added.

Julian Casablancas: 'The Strokes are working night and day on new album!'

The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has said the band are working "night and day" on new material for their fourth album.

Despite being busy promoting his recent solo album 'Phrazes For The Young', Casablancas said he's now thinking about The Strokes' follow up to 2006 album 'First Impressions Of Earth'. He told NYmag.com that the atmosphere in the band is "different than before", with all five members coming together as a group.

"It's night and day now," he said. "Everyone is working as a group, 'Let's do it! Go team!'. Which is amazing. Which is what I wanted since day one. But that's only happening now. Literally now."

Casablancas, who recently moved back to New York from Los Angeles, added that before now part of the problem with The Strokes was to do with individual members' workloads.

"We split the money six ways," he explained (with manager Ryan Gentles being the sixth recipient), "but we didn’t split the work."

However, Casablancas insisted that band relations are good at present, saying: "If I make it superclear why I was unhappy in the past, it might just rehash things that should have been left alone. I think we're fulfilling the promise of what we said we were: actually being a unit that really works on everything."

Julian Casablancas reveals Strokes' 2010 live plans as band unveil new badge

Image

Julian Casablancas has revealed The Strokes have just two gigs scheduled this summer – but he will take up the slack by hitting the road again for festivals.

The New York band are currently recording their fourth album in their home city, but are set to headline the Isle Of Wight (June 12) and Rock Ness (13) festivals this summer.

However speaking as the band unveiled their new logo (pictured), Casablancas told NME.COM that those will be the band's only shows before they complete the record, with a September release planned.

"We’re doing two with The Strokes and that’s it for the summer," he said, adding he would take his solo show on the road again instead. "I'll do other festivals alone, If they’ll have me!"

The Strokes recording new album without Julian Casablancas
Singer says band are making a 'funky 'First Impressions Of Earth''

March 23, 2010
http://www.nme.com/news/the-strokes/50331

Julian Casablancas says that The Strokes are recording their new album without him present in the studio.

The frontman explained that he was leaving his bandmates to work on the music for the record, before he adds vocals alone later on to prevent himself from interfering.

"I think they [the other band members] did a good job," he told ABC News. "Just tracking the songs. It's been nice to get my hands on it."

Explaining why he was removing himself from band recording sessions he added: "I thought honestly it would be a good chance for them to kind of…

"I'm pretty opinionated. Nothing pushy to the point of it's my way or no way, but I'll hear a song and be like, 'Hmmm, it feels like the bass should be like something different'. Whereas if I feel like I wasn't in the room then they could just kind of spread their wings."

He went on to say that the new album "sounds probably more like the last record [2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth'], but I think I might funk it up a little".

The Strokes are set to play the Isle Of Wight festival on June 12 then Rock Ness in Scotland on June 13. Casablancas admitted that the motivation behind agreeing to play them was money.

"Should I say the truth? Money," he said when asked why the band agreed to play the shows. "Yeah. The offers were so crazy that we had to say yes."

Watch the video interview with Casablancas by clicking below.

The Strokes' Julian Casablancas says new album will be out 'in January'
Frontman also thinks they'll 'play at least one new song' at Isle Of Wight and RockNess

The Strokes' Julian Casablancas has announced that the band's new album will be released "in January".

Speaking to Clashmusic.com, the singer revealed that he was "pretty sure" the group's fourth studio album would be out at the start of 2011.

"I think January," he admitted. "I was told not to predict anymore. But I'm pretty sure it should be out in January".

The follow-up to 2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth', Casablancas also claimed that the band are seemingly over the creative differences that have delayed work on the album so far.

"I think time helped and more communication helped," he explained. "We'll see; it's like 'to be continued'. We'll see if things are okay with the band when we're on tour. When we're not on tour, everyone's super nice and chilled and it's all great. It's just when you go on tour that things get weird."

Set to appear at this year's Isle Of Wight festival on June 12, then RockNess in Scotland on June 13, the frontman told fans that while he wasn't sure if they would showcase any new material at those events, he thought they would "play at least one new song".

Julian Casablancas predicts new Strokes album will be out next March
Singer admits record has suffered from delays

July 5, 2010
http://www.nme.com/news/the-strokes/51859

Image

Julian Casablancas has predicted that The Strokes' next album will be released in March 2011.

The singer said the album, which his other Strokes bandmates have been recording without him, is "almost halfway done" at present.

The band's drummer Fab Moretti had previously hoped the follow-up to 2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth' might be released this year.

He told BBC 6Music: "We've wanted to do it for months, or maybe a year now, and then we keep thinking 'OK, we'll do it for like these three weeks and we'll be done'. Then we do it and we decide we're not done, or something comes in the way."

Asked whether he preferred playing with his solo band or with The Strokes, Casablancas remained coy.

He said: "That is a tough question because if I say this [my solo band] then I'd probably be hurting people in The Strokes' feelings, so I'm not gonna say that. I can't answer. I'm sorry. I want to, but I can't. Does it matter with people if I said that?"

The singer went on to state that he thinks playing solo is "liberating", before admitting that his loyalties are split.

"I hate it when bands break up and never play again. I'm kind of split two ways now," he commented. "I feel like my new [solo] thing is in more ways like The Strokes' old thing was. And the new Strokes thing is something that I hope works and I hope everyone loves and makes everyone happy."

Asked whether he thought this was the last shot for The Strokes, Casablancas said: "Honestly, I don't know. One record at a time."

Despite the apparent confusion, Casablancas confirmed that finishing The Strokes album is his priority, though he also wants to release more solo material.

"The first thing is The Strokes thing. Like I said I'm kind of split now, I'll do other things," he explained. "If I have an idea for something that I know head to toe, I'll probably do it on my own, and when I have kind of looser stuff I'll probably bring it to The Strokes. But right now we're just trying to finish this record, so lets see how this goes. Let's make sure no one tries to stab me or something."

The frontman also confirmed that the new Strokes album remains untitled at present, though he joked that he had a couple of titles in mind. "How about 'Brothers'? Or 'Buddies'?" he said.
