and just to add a plug: If this is anywhere close to as good as 2000's Live "Here Come the Noise Makers", it will be fantastic. Bruce and his band find a killer jazz groove (and other genres as well). Great price too!

Could not agree more, Steve. They don't make bands like this much anymore. Beside being a top-drawer keyboardist and composer, Hornsby is all about the music (as opposed to hype, image and ripping off his fans).

12 dollars for two Cds of live Hornsby! If that's the world of exclusives, I can live with it.

Does the guy not play his best known tunes in concert? I don't recognize many of these tunes.

I still love this CD promo that I got my hands on many years ago...

Well, at least on this album, compliled from 3 years of shows, not so much; most of the tracks look to be from his post-"hit" era. However, if you want some of the more familiar tunes played live, look for "Here Comes the Noisemakers", recorded 1998-2000. It's got more of the popular tracks: Mandolin Rain, End of the Innocence, Jacob's Ladder, The Way It Is, and Fortunate Son. But beware, most are heavily re-arranged from the originals (which is why they're so great!)

In addition to being an accomplished musician, Hornsby seems to be a truly nice and down-to-earth person. Back in the early 90's, I ran into him at the concession stand of a minor-league ballpark (he was in town to perform a radio show the next day). We chatted about baseball and a few musicians that we both knew, and he was extremely easy to talk to. After the taping of the show the following day, he asked the audience to stick around and treated us to an impromptu hour-long concert that was incredibly fun, including many of his well-known songs as well as renditions of Traffic's 'Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys' and The Band's 'The Weight'. I would love to hear an official release of his live shows from this time.

Somehow a promo of this turned up at 'Rama, so of course I bought it. It's on 429 Records, a label that seems dedicated to signing acts whose Top 40 days are behind them, but still have a following.

Then hats off to 429 Records who apparently see the "Top 40 days" for the illusion they truly are and, indeed, as probably more the downside of a true artist's career.

Just received my copy of this album from Amazon today. For $12.00 I got two CDs chock full of some of the best jazz/pop fusion you'll ever want to hear. I've always referred to Hornsby as the Hendrix of pop piano. He shows a lot of that kind of stuff here.

Thank God that there are still some people around who care more about the music than about accumulating obscene amounts of wealth. (Listening Experience Hendrix?)
