I'd like to say why bother, but they're bothering anyway. I for one, HATED the whole idea of Rock Star and thought they hired a hack. It was a disgrace to the INXS name and Michael Hutchence. After Jon Stevens left it should've ended once and for all.
And now this. Maybe it will be good, but I doubt it. Hey, at least JD Fortune is living in his car again!
From Anti-Music.com:
TORONTO - INXS has announced a new album featuring a group of guest singers and a world tour that will kick off with a show at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
Following a two-year hiatus from touring, INXS has been in the studio collaborating with "some of the best-known singers from across the world," according to a representative from the band.
A spokeswoman for the band would not confirm whether INXS's former frontman, Canadian J.D. Fortune, is part of the new album, due out 2010. She said an announcement about the singers for the show would be made in the coming days.
According to the band's rep, their Feb. 24 show at Vancouver's BC Place - announced Tuesday as part of a series of Olympic concerts - will kickstart one of the band's "most extensive world tours ever."
"We said early this year that INXS was embarking on their most exciting project since 'Kick,' and we're not here to disappoint," Petrol Electric creative director and founder CM Murphy said in a release.
"2010 will be one of the most dynamic, creative and diverse projects the band has undertaken."
Fortune - from Mississauga, Ont., - made headlines in February when he claimed that the band unceremoniously dumped him at a Hong Kong airport after a 23-month tour, leaving him to live out of a truck.
There was no mention of the upcoming tour Tuesday afternoon on Fortune's website.
INXS had a string of hits in the 1980s and '90s, including "Need You Tonight," "Devil Inside" and "Never Tear Us Apart." In 1997, the band's charismatic lead singer, Michael Hutchence, hanged himself in a hotel room.
Since then, the group has had a series of lead singers, including Terence Trent D'Arby and Jon Stevens.
Fortune shot to stardom when he won the television reality contest "Rock Star: INXS" in 2005 and became the new frontman for the Aussie rock group. A song he wrote on the show called "Pretty Vegas" became a popular single off the band's subsequent album, "Switch," reaching No. 1 on the charts in Canada.
But following the "Switch" tour, Fortune says the band dumped him at an airport. The band has since disputed the story, with a spokesman saying he wasn't even sure where the supposed incident Fortune referred to was to have taken place.
Other performers for the Vancouver Victory Ceremonies include Nelly Furtado, Loverboy, Phoenix, Barenaked Ladies and Billy Talent. A performance is scheduled each night at BC Place from Feb. 14 to 26, and they will be accompanied by the presentation of Olympic medals in sports including speedskating, snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
Tickets range from $22 to $50. The concerts will air nightly on MuchMusic at 11 p.m. ET.

Funny Chris!
I dug the hell out of Switch and I wad really excited to see what they would create from there. I wasn't a fan of JD Fortune on the show, but he ended up being a perfect fit. Too bad drugs and egos had to get in the way. I'm not nearly as excited about an album with guest vocalists.

They were a good band throughout the 80s and had some pretty good stuff in the early 90s as well. It's too bad that they could not sustain it after that. I enjoyed Rock Star for what it was, but it was bad for INXS and JD was an ass.

INXS have announced the guest singers from their new album. INXS will release a new single on Monday, with Australian vocalist/actor Dan Sultan at the mic.
The song is a new version of their 1980 hit "Just Keep Walking." Sultan - who appeared in the 2009 film Bran Nue Dae with Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush - isn't the only guest vocalist appearing on INXS's forthcoming album. Other singers include Ben Harper, Rob Thomas, Train's Pat Monahan and more, all offering their own takes on INXS classics. The Harper-fronted version of "Never Tear Us Apart" was released in August. The release date for the new album is yet to be announced.
Singer JD Fortune, who won his place in the band via the TV show Rockstar: INXS and performed on 2005's Switch, is still a permanent member of the band, although his job appeared in doubt in 2009 when he told Entertainment Tonight Canada that he was fired at an airport in Hong Kong at the conclusion of the last tour. -

From AntiMusic.com:
INXS will release their new album, Original Sin, on January 11, 2011. The band has recorded several of their signature hits re-imagined by some of the world's finest musicians including Ben Harper, Rob Thomas, Tricky, Nikka Costa and more.
"We're thrilled to welcome INXS back to Atco. This album will reunite the band and their great music with their significant fanbase, and by way of some very special guests, to a new audience," said Kevin Gore, President & CEO of Rhino Entertainment.
An ambitious project two years in the making, Original Sin teams the band with musicians from around the globe, from superstars like Ben Harper, Train's Pat Monahan, Rob Thomas, and Nikka Costa to up and comer DJ Yaleidys of Cuba, to reinterpret and revitalize their own classics for a whole new generation. An eclectic mix of music including Thomas and Yaleidys' sultry take on "Original Sin" and trip-hop superstar Tricky's electrifying version of "Mediate" to Pat Monahans' emotional "Beautiful Girl" and French pop artist Loane's take on "Mystify" with John Mayer & Kirk Pengilly on guitar, INXS boldly embrace their past and future on one album. Original Sin, the first new musical project between INXS and CM Murphy in over 15 years, is not just typical re-recordings of the band's original songs. INXS along with artists from all over the world are paying tribute to the songs themselves and to the songwriters Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence. "INXS's material, specifically INXS's songs, set the table for singers," said Ben Harper. "In my opinion, they're any singer's dream songs to sing. Covering, 'Never Tear Us Apart' is like covering 'Dock Of The Bay.' I'm not here to make grandiose overstatements; it's just a fact, that is one of the greatest soul songs ever written."
To have so many of their peers want to perform INXS songs is a testament to the songwriting and something that INXS keyboardist/guitarist and main songwriter Andrew Farriss is immensely proud of. "I'm truly flattered that we have so many artists interested in working with us reimaging these songs. In a sense, it's been re-energizing for us to look at ourselves differently in the context of being in 2010 rather than, you know, 30 years ago. I feel we're very much doing something that's now and significant." Agreed lead guitarist Tim Farriss, "Original Sin is just, for me, so exciting. I know certain people might sort of perceive it as why aren't you doing new material, but the fact of the matter is we're getting to play some of our favorite songs from our history and play them the way we want them to be heard today."
For drummer Jon Farriss, it's all about the music. "We wanted to celebrate the songs, they're such great songs," he says. "I think initially there was a mixed bag of emotions and feelings, which was probably a good thing because we realized how much the songs meant to us. But at the end of the day we started to realize that this is actually cathartic for us and it might be for everyone else as well."
"This is the most beautiful and heart wrenching musical project I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in," said CM Murphy, INXS creative director and global business strategist. "Every track is played with emotion and conviction by the wonderful musicians within INXS. Every artist who performed on this album did so with heartfelt connection to the songs and to Michael's original vocals as well as his soul and his love for music. I had the pleasure of working with Michael for 15 dynamic years and I know for a fact he would love every performer on this album. This is a very special album."

Sounds like there's little "original" about "Original Sin".

This is one of those albums that sounds like such a horrible, misguided idea that it could actually end up being good in an absurd sort of way. I'm certainly not going out of my way to track it down, though.

I must have missed something here. Wasn't the whole point of the T.V. show "Rock Star" to find the group INXS a new singer?Didn't they find a singer and release an album (CD) entitled "Switch"? So now for some reason that remains a mystery to me that have to go out and find yet another singer? Why? I still like this band but this is almost getting to the point of bordering on the absurd here. Would somebody mind filling me in on what I'm obviously missing.
Thanks!

Sigh...
Solid news for INXS fans: frontman J.D. Fortune is back in the fold.
The QMI Agency reports the Canadian singer is back fronting INXS on the road, despite claiming in 2009 that the band had fired him -- a event he now calls a misunderstanding.
"There was a lot of confusion at the time," says the 37-year-old, who replaced deceased singer Michael Hutchence after winning the Rock Star reality TV show in 2005. "We had just got off tour and we took a break. And in that break, things got misconstrued. We were not able to communicate with each other -- we live 12,000 kilometres apart."
Fortune, who was living in his car before signing up for Rock Star, ended up broke and homeless again. But last year, he and the band met and ironed out the situation. They performed together at the Vancouver Olympics, then in Australia, and have begun working on new material.
"We got together after the show in Melbourne and just started jamming," said Fortune. "And all the sparks went off -- it was like fireworks and bells and whistles. We all went, 'Awesome. Let's keep doing this.' The possibilities are endless. It's really exciting. I'm just honoured to be fronting the band again."
Along with INXS, Fortune says he has been writing tunes with Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith, and one of his songs has been picked up by producer Jerry Bruckheimer for a movie.
INXS' new album, “Original Sin,” is available now via Amazon.

In a newly-published interview with Chartattack, INXS singer J.D. Fortune says he and the band started writing new material together in Melbourne, Australia a few months back. When asked what musical shape their new songs are taking, Fortune says the songs are in a very "rock" groove.
"So far, the songs are a real cross between swampy drums from the 60's and really thumpy bass," says Fortune. "There are some really cool melodies in these songs. So far, the demos we have recorded are more aggressive than anything that was on 'Switch.'"
While he doesn't estimate when a new INXS record will be finished let alone released, Fortune says he's still looking forward to the group's upcoming tour plans, some of which include Canadian gigs:
"We start a tour at the end of January in Australia, then play South America before coming back to Canada towards the end of March. The dates are still to be confirmed, but we're all really looking forward to heading back out on the road and playing live."
