linda,

you always seem to find info about things, anything out there in cyberspace about the CSN/rick rubin covers project?

it just seems to have disappeared.

thanks,

renny

Crosby, Stills & Nash
Recording resumes; summer tour in the works

Crosby, Stills & Nash have resumed work on an album of covers with producer Rick Rubin. The trio already has seven tracks in the can and expects to record another dozen tunes. Rehearsals for the remaining songs begin this week.

The album, announced 11 months ago, is not expected to be released until at least the fourth quarter of this year. It will likely have about 14 tracks; among the keepers so far are versions of Gregg Allman's "Midnight Rider" and Bob Dylan's "Girl From North Country." It will be their first studio album since the 1999 release by CSNY, "Looking Forward."

Before the album is released, however, CSN will again embark on a summer tour. The group, sans occasional partner Neil Young, will perform in North America in June and then travel to Europe for six weeks. Upon returning home, they expect to tour the US for another month.

They did a similar run last year, playing North America in early June and then August through September, with shows in Europe in late June and July.

And the good news? If it pans out with Rubin, we'll get several albums' worth of material even after Crosby, Stills and Nash are all in their graves...

I'm more interested in the Stills box set.

I agree. I'm not holding out real high hopes for the quality of the covers project, & I'm not a Rick Rubin fan.

I think Rubin's productions can be too minimal (I've complained before about his work with Neil Diamond) but I think that approach may work well with CSN, where the focus is on the vocals and acoustic guitars anyway.

I remember years ago (a decade ago or longer) hearing that the three were putting together an album of covers of EACH other's songs -- stuff from The Hollies, Buffalo Springfield, and The Byrds. Whatever happened to that? It might be a decade or longer before we see the Rubin stuff!

Okay, okay, ... I'll stop being so pessimistic.

Now that might have been cool!

I heard the same thing from a DJ on WLUP in Chicago. He'd mention new albums that were in the works, and that was one of them. I think this was in the mid ninties...
