It's a combination of church-rooted hallelujah praisin' and tell-it-like-it-is storytellin'. Few contemporary artists are equipped to carry the torch with any sense of authenticity. Anthony Hamilton may be the sole-indeed, soulful-exception. Collector's update:

For some reason, "She's Gone" is listed as a bonus track on the actual CD release, but it seems to be included in all formats so far. The Japanese CD also adds "Do You Feel Me" from the American Gangster soundtrack but does not include Hamilton's "Stone Cold" from the same release.

The iTunes "Deluxe Version" adds "Beautiful Wonderful" and "Dear Life"; both are previously released tracks (from the Japanese import of Ain't Nobody Worryin' and the Step Up soundtrack, respectively).
