Morrissey heaps praise on The Courteeners

Morrissey has lent his support to The Courteeners once more.

The Smiths legend has been a vocal supporter of his fellow Mancunians in the past, even going to see them play live.

Now the star has repeated the endorsement in a new interview in the US.

Speaking to radio station KCRW, the singer heaped praise on the band. "Every song was very strong and full of hooks and full of dynamics," he said. "I thought, 'This is great'."

Morrissey continued: "Because so many groups in England, they're hyped and they're huge and they're all over the press and they don't really actually have anything on offer… but it's different with The Courteeners, they actually do have very good, strong songs."

He added: "I think they will make it here (in the US) and I think you'll come across them."

Hotly anticipated 2008 debut album from the Mancunian indie four-piece The Courteeners. After signing to Polydor Records in 2007 the band went on to support the likes of The Coral and hooked up with producer Stephen Street (Blur, Babyshambles) to create a record bursting with guitar noise and rasping, energetic vocals. Singles include 'What Took You So Long' and 'Not Nineteen Forever'. Universal. 2008.

The Courteeners announce first US headline show

The Courteeners have revealed details of their first US headline show.

Liam Fray's band will play New York's Mercury Lounge - the venue made famous by The Strokes - on March 17.

The one-off date comes two days before The Courteeners head out on an 18-date tour across the US supporting Morrissey.

Speaking about the gigs, Fray said "I'm unhealthily excited for the tour. We really feel like we're at the top of our game at the minute. We feel like this is perfect timing. The stars are aligned."
