We know the release information has been kinda sorta vague at best, but we are here to tell you that the album will be released exclusively to wendyandlisa.com in the next few weeks. We are so excited to finally get this OUT! thank you everyone for your continued support and enthusiasm.

The album will be offered for digital download, and we will be doing pre-sales of the physical release, as well as some other cool exclusive stuff.

Los Angeles, CA - Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, better known as the legendary duo Wendy and Lisa, have announced the upcoming release of their new album, White Flags of Winter Chimneys. It will be released exclusively on their web site wendyandlisa.com in December, to be followed with a CD release in February 2009.

White Flags of Winter Chimneys is Wendy and Lisa’s first album since 1998’s Girl Bros. Self-produced and self-released by the duo, the album is a gorgeous kaleidoscope of song-compositions with influences ranging from trance to electronica to 70’s funk and straight up rock and roll.

The renowned fine artist and graphic designer Rex Ray, whose artwork has adorned albums by David Bowie, Diamanda Galas, Deee-Lite and many others, designed the album packaging. Additionally, the packaging of the CD will be a 6-panel Digipak comprised of recycled board, printed using non-toxic vegetable based ink, and a FlexTray made from 100% post-consumer plastic (recycled soda bottles).

Wendy and Lisa are also continuing in their successful television-scoring career. Currently, they are in their third season of scoring the NBC-TV hit “Heroes,” and they are taking on the scoring duties for the upcoming “Virtuality” on Fox and “Nurse Jackie” on Showtime. They have received the prestigious ASCAP award for Composer’s of the Year for their work on Dangerous Minds, the theme to HBO’s Carnivale, Crossing Jordan and Heroes.

Wendy and Lisa first burst upon the consciousness of the music world in the early 80’s as part of Prince’s Revolution, where the two were Prince’s most trusted collaborators and partners for what arguably was the most seismic chapter of the legend’s career. Striking out on their own in 1986, they have released four well-regarded albums: Wendy and Lisa (1987), Fruit at the Bottom (1989), Eroica (1990), and Girl Bros. (1998).

Very cool way to do it - offering not only the higher-than-normal quality MP3s (320 kbps), but also a FLAC option for no extra charge. That's right - lossless files included for free, if'n you want them.

I'll probably end up picking this up. The streaming track sounds pretty good.

Patrick, thanks for the tip! I bought the cd + flac option. I like to support anyone being cool enough to offer lossless, & since adding the cd is only $6 more..................

I just finished listening to the Flac version. I like it. It's the hardest rock & darkest album they've done, but it's good. I have liked everything they've done with the partial exception of Fruit At The Bottom. Lyrically, it sounds like a breakup album....... I have no idea if I'm correct or if they're writing about their own relationship (I BELIEVE W&L are a couple), but that's what I'm hearing in the lyrics.

Edit: From online posts apparently W&L ended their romantic relationship in 2003, so this is likely a breakup album about a relationship one of them had with someone else.

A couple cool things about the download: They've added 4 90's demos as bonus tracks only to the download version, & it comes with FULL cover (front as a .png & the rest as a pdf) including the inside!

I'd love to see more artists imitate this model.

The download comes with different cover art then Linda posted. I THINK this is also the cd art, but not 100% certain.
