COLUMBIA RECORDS TO RELEASE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND'S 'MAGIC TOUR HIGHLIGHTS' JULY 15 VIA ALL DIGITAL DOWNLOAD STORES INCLUDING THE ITUNES STORE

Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 'Magic Tour Highlights' on July 15 via all digital download stores, including the iTunes Store. The release will consist of four audio tracks with four accompanying videos, all recorded live in concert during the 'Magic' tour.

Bob Clearmountain mixed and Bob Ludwig mastered the songs. Frequent Springsteen collaborator and GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winner Thom Zimny edited the videos.

On sales of these downloads, the artists, songwriters, and music publishers are waiving all of their royalties, and Columbia Records is donating all of its net profits, to the Danny Federici Melanoma Fund. The iTunes Store is donating their first year's net profits as well.

This is wonderful news! It's always great to have Springsteen live and I'm glad to hear that Columbia, iTunes and the artists involved are donating the profits to the Danny Federici fund. Will look for the "Magic Tour Highlights' on the 15th.

Too bad there's no physical release.

Yeah, this is Springsteen's second I-tunes only "single" release--there was a "Girls In Their Summer Clothes" single a few months back with a live version and a video.

It does kind of make you wonder what Springsteen needs with a record company anyway if he doesn't need anybody to design artwork and print up CD's and records and mail them out to retailers--he's already got Jon Laudau and Dave Mash in-house to hype these I-tunes exclusives to death.

It's a fund-raiser for melanoma research in which all the artists are giving up their royalties. So, yes a great opportunity to trash the Springsteen organization.

Not trashing this release or its' intentions, just saying too bad there's no CD version coming out. Might increase the funds they're trying to raise.

Probably HAD, they (Pacific Microtronics) sold out to Microsoft which may be why you don't see as many HDCD titles like we did years back,

I'm going to refrain from making any judgement call on this thing for now. He should just know that I'm still on dial-up.
My bigger point is that I feel fortunate in a way. I hope this doesn't come off as egotistical, but I actually feel better knowing that I gave a $10.00 donation to Danny's Melanoma Fund within hours the Sloan/Kettering link went up after Danny died rather than having to have some kind of a release come out in order for me to get up off of my ass to thank him for all he did for me over the years.

Bump ~ I've added the cover art and Amazon link to Mr Fuse's opening post. Amazon's MP3 department will be offering this for download beginning on July 15th, and profits will go to the Federici Fund same as iTunes is doing. Still no sign of a physical CD release anywhere in the world ...

Of course, when I was a kid, I wondered what in the hell "EP" stood for. "Extended play? But it's only four songs!" Odd how some of these terms outlive their original meaning by literally decades.
