Sheryl Crow to Return in February

Sheryl Crow's new album “Detours” has a release date of February 5. Her new single “Shine over Babylon” has an environmentally friendly aspect to it.

"I'm really encouraging artists to write about what's going on, because we seem to be very distracted by some lightweight topics,” Crow tells Billboard.com.

The artist's baby son, Wyatt, will also be making an appearance on the song "Lullaby for Wyatt," which will be featured in the upcoming movie "Grace Is Gone." Crows last album “Wildflower” in 2005 debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200.

I wasn't that knocked out by her last couple of albums. I may wait, see if I hear some of the new songs and then...wait for the "deluxe edition." :D

Her best album, IMO, is her self-titled second album. She's never topped that one.

I did see her "Hits and Rarities" collection at Newbury Comics for $23.99. Not a bad price for an import double CD.

Early warning, Target is said to have a limited exclusive cd/dvd edition releasing 2/5 at $13.99. No idea what the dvd content is. At least it's coming out at the same time as the regular cd.

reported by the hoffman's.

FYI

the japanese release of "detours" will have 2 bonus tracks.

my guess: the songs could show up in about 6 months on a re-release, or could be on a U.S. single. we will have to keep an eye out for these.

interesting that the U. S. release wouldn't have the title song on it.

Along with Melissa Etheridge, Crow's had more b-sides/bonus tracks then most others. At least M.E. has put most of her's on LONG cd singles.

I'll buy this one because I really like SC, but the first single is terrible, Definitely back to the "Leaving Las Vegas/Tuesday Night Music Club" sound – which is interesting – but the lyrics are really bad.

Completely agreed that her second album is by far her best. I saw her live between her first and second albums and she played three new songs that completely rocked. Supposedly, they were part of an album that was shelved. Anyone know anything about it?

The iTunes version of "Detours" will have two bonus tracks that do not appear on the Japanese issue: cover versions of Jackson Browne's "Doctor My Eyes" and The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun." (The latter was previously issued on the soundtrack to "Bee Movie.") I love the woman, but keeping up with her wears me out. Excluding the Beatles cover, we have now reached the number of songs needed to meet Linda's prediction of a future 17-track "deluxe edition."

Amazon now shows the US cd with "Detours" as track 7, several songs are in a different order & the cd has 14 tracks total. It appears the Japan & (possibly European) cd has 2 bonus tracks (not 3): Rise Up & Beautiful Dream.

Still no word that i can find as to what's going to be on the Target exclusive edition.

If it's anything like most recent Target exclusives, it will be a bonus DVD with a video for the first single, some behind-the-scenes interview stuff, and *maybe* a live performance or two... most of these have been pretty underwhelming.

Yeah, these multiple versions with different bonus tracks are driving me nuts. The America 'Here & Now' release was ridiculous, with four different versions (including itunes), all with unique tracks. This one is shaping up to compete with that, and I am in total agreement about how frustrating these download-only bonus cuts are. I yearn for the old days of only having to worry about a bouus track in Japan or on UK CD singles!

Unfortunately, you never know how it's going to play out. In the case of Ozzy's 'Black Rain,' the recently-released deluxe edition compiled together all the Japanese and download tracks, but in the case of McCartney's 'Chaos & Creation,' no deluxe version ever appeared, leaving a bunch of great tracks like "She Is So Beautiful" as downloads, Japanese bonus tracks and in one case ("Summer of 59"), only available as a 7" vinyl b-side!

Best Buy lists a deluxe edition of Detours as coming out next Tuesday along with the regular version, but lists no content. Amazon doesn't list a domestic version other than the regular 14-track edition, so any deluxe editions might be specific chain releases. The discs are long-since pressed and already presumably in transit to the shops but they can't tell you what's on it? Even the official Crow site doesn't even mention there's a special edition anywhere.

One neat thing: if you go to Amazon's page for the US version (which does included Detours, as I'm sure all versions do), there's a 4-song live acoustic performance (no audience) you can view which includes 3 new tracks and one oldie. This might be the Target DVD footage; we'll find out in the Sunday flyers, although they don't usually list specific track info. I seem to recall either Target or Best Buy had a version of Wildflower with a bonus DVD of live-in-the-studio performances that was pretty cool...

The latest from the SC message board is that the Target bonus DVD will contain a 30-minute "Making of" plus video for "Shine Over Babylon."

Now, are you ready for total confusion?
Best Buy will sell the following:
Detours CD only for $9.99.
DRM-Free Digital Album for $9.99.
CD Plus 5 Downloads from the Best Buy Digital Music Store. (Choose from more than 4 million songs.) $11.99
CD Plus 5 Downloads and a Sheryl Crow Ringtone for $13.99

Just finished listening to the 16 track edition for the first time. My initial reaction is that it's not her best, but parts are really good. Most of the songs are about either her breakup with Lance Armstrong or left wing politics (anti Iraq war, & oil issues). I don't remember SC ever being this political before, I like it!

Since the standard US version has 14 tracks, putting aside the question of where you got it two days before release— —is this 16-track version the itunes edition (with the two bonus cover congs) or is it the Japanese version (with the two bonus originals) as listed above in some previous posst? Or is there a deluxe version at one of the U.S. chains (Target/Circuit City/BestBuy/Wal-Mart/Borders) with sixteen tracks? I guess so far we know Target has a DVD with 'making of' but apparently no actual bonus songs...

Edit: I just saw the Sunday Flyers listings and that apparently none of the US versions have any bonus songs, so my curiousity about this 16-track version you have is heightened! The Target version with the DVD for $9.99 is the way to go—too bad they are the one chain that doesn't price match, since it's $8.99 at Circuit City—and the Japanese appears to be the only way to get the two extra originals; either that or wait and see if a deluxe reissue edition comes out here, but who knows if or when. Remember when buying a new release was a simple decision based on who had it cheapest? I miss those days...

the target version with the DVD is $13.98, no DVD - $9.98.

Right you are...now the question remaining is what "16 track edition" Geff R obtained and was referring to...
