Kravitz Is Talkin' Bout A 'Revolution' On New CD
Lenny Kravitz is eyeing a February release for his eighth Virgin studio album, "It's Time for a Love Revolution." Kravitz played nearly all the instruments on his first effort in three years, which was recorded at his studio in the Bahamas as well as Miami, Paris and New York.
"The last record was still very natural, but it had a cleaner sound," Kravitz tells Billboard.com by phone from Brazil. "On this one, I was really into using more of the room mics and getting a lot of spill. I wanted to hear the walls and the room."
The result is a more-stripped down feel on rockers like "Bring It On," "Love Love Love" and the fast boogie "Will You Marry Me." The riff for the latter cut dates back to sessions for 1993's "Are You Gonna Go My Way," according to Kravitz.
"In actuality, it was a different song with a different melody and lyric," he says. "I pulled the riff back out and then I cut the lyric and the melody. But my guitar tech looked at me like, 'That's depressing, man. I love the riff, but it's depressing.' It was about dropping out of society. So, he challenged me. I went home that night, wrote completely different lyrics and melodies and put it down."
In addition to ballads like "I'll Be Waiting," "I Love the Rain" and "A Long and Sad Goodbye," Kravitz turns political on "Back in Vietnam" and "I Want To Go Home." The latter is narrated by a soldier, "but that song is more from the point of, I don't care who you are or what side you're on ... no matter what, at some point, you're like, 'I've gotta get out of here,'" he says. "Maybe some guys are gung-ho. But people I know and that I've talked to, it has taken a lot of them by surprise, when you've had ideas in your head about what your life would be."
The full tour picture for "Revolution" is still coming together, but Kravitz says he plans on "going out and doing surprise gigs and playing clubs, where I can get out there and get close to the people and have fun."
"I wanted to make a double record, but there were some label issues with pricing and the business the way it is now," he continues. "So I crammed as many minutes on it as I could. I really wanted to have a lot of good music to play. After you tour for so many years, people want to hear a certain amount of hits. I needed a lot of fresh material, really, for me. I don't want to just be rehashing the hits and stuff. I want to stretch out and do a good amount of new material. Otherwise, you're not inspired. You're just doing business."
[bigred]Standard Edition (CD Only)[/bigred] Lenny Kravitz says it's time for a revolution and he is launching a musical movement to do just that with the release of his 8th studio album on February 5, 2008. The album, entitled It Is Time For A Love Revolution (Virgin Records America), is Kravitz's first new release in over three years; the record is a thunderous rock 'n roll call-to-arms, featuring a universal blend of soul, funk, and jazz grooves and the undeniable anthemic lyricism that's been his trademark from day one.
"I love this record and the feel of the record," Lenny Kravitz said of the release. "I felt like a kid playing in my bedroom, and that's the most important thing you can tap into, that feeling of being free."1. Love Revolution 2. Bring It On 3. Good Morning 4. Love Love Love 5. Lenny's cheesy retro hippy-shtick wouldn't be half as annoying if he could write decent songs.

Actually, he does write good songs and good riffs (it may not be the most original stuff around, but it's well executed and fun) and he's a damn good guitar player and singer. Other than that he's a real hack, you're right!

Collector Alert: I got a promo of the new Lenny today at 'Rama. It's a "deluxe" edition, includes a bonus DVD featuring Lenny discussing his Love Revolution track-by-track, and a limited edition library containing eight quintessential Lenny music videos."
No clue as to which quintessential videos are on the DVD. I'll check it out when I get home.

Jan 25, 2008
Lenny Kravitz has claimed that he has not had sex for three years.
According to The Sun, Kravitz has also vowed that he will abstain until he next gets married.
The newspaper quotes him as saying: “It’s just a promise I made. It’s where I’m at in life.
“The women have got to come with something else, not just the body, but the mind and spirit. It trips them out, but I’m looking at the big picture."

http://www.nme.com/news/lenny-kravitz/34323Lenny Kravitz postpones European tour
Feb 13, 2008
Lenny Kravitz is postponing his forthcoming European tour due to severe illness.
The singer checked into Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami earlier this week to treat bronchitis as well as severe dehydration and fatigue.
Kravitz was scheduled to play dates in London and Brussels next week and throughout Europe into March, but the dates have been cancelled and are expected to be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
"I would like to apologize to my fans in Europe," Kravitz said in a statement. "I am extremely disappointed that I am not able to come to Europe to see everyone and also perform. Unfortunately I need to take this time to rest and get healthy and so I was forced to make this decision."
