If you're not nice
Product Description This contemporary, wiggle-dress-wearing trio merges the rich, layered harmonies and pristine pop of the classic Motown Records-era Girl Group sound with modern themes. We Are The Pipettes is a modern indie pop album, and a classic one at that. Having made a splash in the US with a sold-out club tour in June, a wave of early press from South By Southwest and beyond, and the EP/single release for Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me, The Pipettes are now poised to bring their timeless pop hooks and synchronized stage moves to the US with their debut LP, We Are the Pipettes.

This is shockingly good stuff. MTV2 has been playing the video for "Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me" for a while, and from the first time I heard it, I couldn't get it out of my head! Kinda Phil Spector-ish with modern prodcution. My wife loves the song, so I'll be getting this for her. Aren't I nice?

Tell me something I don't know Linda! Hey-thanks for the other videos-I hope MTV2 will show them on Subterranean the last vestige of good videos there aside from the occassional good clip on Headbanger's Ball when they're not busy showing crappy Screamo and Cookie Monster bands (those are real genres sadly).
I had no idea The Pipettes had other vids-so thanks-the wife will watch these tomorrow!

Banned??? Moi???
During today's Jimbo Lunch, I got a free promo copy of the Pipettes' "Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me" CD EP. For completists, it contains two non-lp tracks, including the amusingly-titled "Guess Who Ran Off With the Milkman?"

I was disappointed to find that J&R had the CD priced at $11.99--two dollars higher than the list price. I'll just have to wait 'til it shows up at 'Rama.
All this talk about the Pipettes did inspire me to dig out CDs by Shampoo, All Saints, and Banarama, to revisit earlier UK girl groups. Viva la Megababes!

The Pipettes have lost two band members, having today (April 18) announced that vocalist RiotBecki and Rosay have left the band.
An official statement from the band said that the duo had left the group to pursue other musical pursuits. They have been replaced by two singers, named Ani and Anna.
The statement claimed that the former band members remain friends with the remaining Pipettes.

I bought the US version of their album, but I like the cover of the UK version better...But I digress.
The full "statement" can be read at http://www.thepipettes.com/ but this paragraph caught my eye--very Spinal Tap:
"People may be confused by such a drastic change in line-up but please rest assured - if we were to be an imitation of ourselves we would stop. Plus the Pipettes has more members come and go than major labels have A&R men, it's just another day in the office for us (plus we’ve got to go one better than the Sugababes)."
They also claim to be "demoing up 20-25 new songs, with an eye to recording a second album in the Summer."
Also on the official site is a vague "manifesto", which states "Let us make this our starting point and start here to tell our story, from whence we shall move both backwards and forwards (in historical terms, the two are never easy to separate anyway)."
Huh?
(Note to whoever or whatever the Pipettes consist of these days--what made the first CD so much fun was the utter lack of any intellectual pretension.)
