NEW YORK (Billboard) - The Eagles have almost completed their first studio album since 1979's "The Long Run," and plan to tour extensively next year, guitarist Joe Walsh says.

"We're just finishing vocals and mixing it. We're all finally signing off on it," Walsh told Billboard.com

All of the band members -- Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Timothy B. Schmit and Walsh -- wrote songs for the album, which he said "go in some really, really new, different directions. It's hard to compare to anything that I hear out there now."

For his songs, however, Walsh "went rock 'n' roll ... I didn't want us to be too ballad-y here. We need some stuff we can play live, so I made sure there was that element in the record."

The Eagles insisted (see Don Henley) that this "new CD" would be out by the end of June.
Note that Billboard's article mentions NO firm release date. Unnamed sources are saying this collection of tracks is now in the early mixing stage but probably won't be out until October, at the earliest.
Don't hold your breath. The guys have supposedly been working on this for over five years... but have only been recording it over the last year or so. Even The Who got their new CD out almost a year ago already.
How long does it take to make one CD?!!

O.k., I'm joking here, so please don't get mad at me. I kind of cracked up when I saw the 1 hr, 46 minutes ago thing before the article. I know why it's really there. But I smiled when I saw it and imagined something along the lines of "1hr, 46 minutes ago, that was the position held by The Eagles. It may not necessarily be that way an hour and 46 minutes from now". LOL!
boy! This album has sure been an epice for sheer length of time getting made.

That comment scares me more than it excites me.

I was hoping the thread title meant that they were almost done as a band (givng up)

I miss Don Felder.

I miss Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner.

I miss the '70s.

All I hope is gthat there's NOTHING on it that's already been released. No "Hole in the World", and nothing from that CD that was included in the copies of the "Farewell Tour" DVD.

You mean this isn't about the Philadelphia Eagles' season being done before it even started?

I miss the age I was in the 70's!

Besides no sex, I have some of my best memories from the 70's so I know exactly what Linda means. Will always be my favorite decade and music is the biggest part of that.

The Eagles can't be together. I was at the FINAL concert of their FINAL Hell Freezes Over tour. They said that was it.

Never, ever, believe an entertainer when they say they're retiring or that they'll never tour again.

You won't get any arguments from me about the '70s-especially the early to mid-'70s. It was the best time of my life and it was great to be a kid back then.

You mean this isn't about the Philadelphia Eagles' season being done before it even started?

Hey-as an Eagles fan, I have to ask what are you talking about? They will win the NFC East again. It will be another great season ultimately ending in disappointment. But, that's what makes me an Eagles fan.
Now, as for the band The Eagles-well, I hope this album is anything but mediocre, but most likely it will not attain such lofty heights. I seriously doubt these guys are capable of making anything good now. "Hole In The World" was like listening to an aged Backstreet Boys cover band. Anything else would be an improvement for sure.

Well I LOVE the Eagles, and even though this 'almost done' story has been going on for years, I'm still excited about the possibility that maybe it is actually 'almost done.' Henley and Frey are the worst perfectionists in the business. They take great pride in the Eagles' legacy and know what's at stake with this next album - which in all likelihood will be the very last one you'll see under the "Eagles" banner.

The two songs they released last year, "Fast Company" and "Do Something", proved to me that they can still crank out topical, melodic, music.
