Don't know if this is news to everyone or not, but here it is just in case.

From the http://www.heart-music.com web site:

ANN WILSON MAKES SOCIAL STATEMENT WITH FIRST SOLO RECORD HOPE & GLORY
(SEPTEMBER 11TH, ZOË/ROUNDER RECORDS)

PEERS AND LUMINARIES JOIN HEART'S LEGENDARY SINGER

Ann Wilson has recorded her first-ever solo effort Hope & Glory, due September 11th on Zoë/ Rounder Records. The arresting vocalist branches out with a socially conscious and thought-provoking album of songs she selected to inspire the appropriately titled Hope & Glory.

Produced by Ben Mink (k.d. lang, Feist), Hope & Glory features guest appearances from iconic artists Elton John, Gretchen Wilson, Alison Krauss, Rufus Wainwright, Ann's sister Nancy Wilson and others on unique renditions of songs made famous by Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Neil Young and more.

"Each of these songs holds a special place in my soul...At one time or another every one of them has kept me up at night to the point of exasperation and will not be banished, as I lay sleepless on my pillow. Such songs as these carry me through my life, and they are a standard to which all new music I hear and write must compare." - Ann Wilson

With the state of our times in mind, Wilson sings the story of a fallen soldier ("Where to Now St. Peter"), recounts hardship and desperation ("Immigrant Song") and takes an angel's view of a battlefield ("War of Man"). Wilson ties the entire body of work together with her stirring original song entitled "Little Problems, Little Lies", a harrowing soldier's eye view of life on the front lines.

There was a rumor going around at that time (1986/87) that Ann was going to do a solo album, but it never happened. This was right after Heart made their comeback.

Magic Man? I don't get it, where does it come from? Some Elton John song?

Renny,

Never heard anything by Heart - so that's where it's from!

Magic Man was not their biggest hit per se, maybe best known, but not their biggest. These Dreams went to #1 in 1986 and is their biggest hit.

Big-time Heart fans may disagree, but I really liked the Essential set. It gave me everything I thought I needed.

They also didn't record over 20 albums, they have 11 studio albums and a few live albums, but nowhere near 30 albums as Heart.

Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy is my favourite album of all time. :yay:

First album to debut at number 1 on Billboard.

But Heart's, Dreamboat Annie, is also on my all-time favourites list.

Maybe I should change my login to Captain Fantastic.

Or Brown Dirt Cowboy.

Whirlygig wasn't reissued under the Heart name, while the Christmas album was.

P.S. "These Dreams" was #1 for 1 week, while "Alone" was #1 for 3 weeks. Joel Whitburn (who is regarded as an authority on such matters) ranks "Alone" as Heart's biggest hit.

Very promising set list. However, I'm usually hesitant to pull the trigger when it comes to covers albums. I'll wait for the reviews to start coming in.

"Alone" is Heart's biggest hit-it was #1 for 3 weeks. "These Dreams" was their biggest AC hit spending 3 weeks at #1 in 1986.
Their biggest AOR hit (remember, they didn't track this stuff until 1981) was "How Can I Refuse" which hit #1 in 1983 for 1 week.
Heart are awesome. "The Essential Heart" was a great comp-it was missing "City's Burning"-that was my only complaint.

Let's not forget the Magazine Picture Disc and the Bad Animals Radio Show Cue Card Promo Only LP. In the collecting world those count big time. And since the Lovemongers SHOULD be included as they are Heart, then why not add Nancy's solo cd Live at Macabe's. Nice music on that. (ahh more fuel for the fire)
