13.Jul.07 8:01pm

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and the B-52's have contributed songs to a forthcoming compilation of original songs from the past nine seasons of 'The Simpsons' television programme.

Jackson Brown, Shawn Colvin and 'Weird' Al Yankovic also appear on 'The Simpsons: Testify', which is due out in the US on September 18.

In addition, comedian Ricky Gervais features on two of the more than three-dozen songs on the album, reports Billboard.

The album release is set to coincide with the premiere of the 19th season of 'The Simpsons' in the US.

Mmmmm...musical donuts...

Renny swears that he's never seen a single complete episode of The Simpsons, but he may have to buy the latest TV compilation for the one Jackson Browne contribution. (Browne rewrote "Rosie" as a tribute to Marge.)

Will either of these albums include participation from the Simpsons themselves, either in the songs or via soundbites from the TV show and movie?

Well, the first CD mentioned has a bunch of songs from the TV show, most featuring vocals by the Simpsons or other characters from the series. There are two earlier CDs in the same vein.

I got my copy of Testify at 'Rama. There's a lot of spoken dialog on here too, unfortunately it's not indexed separately, but tacked on to the songs.

Also, Amazon's info had the guest appearances wrongly attributed. I did a little cutting and pasting to Linda's post above. :D

There was one episode with a great cover of Can't Buy Me Love, done by NRBQ, but it's not on any of the compilations.

Jimbo,

Does the "Everybody Hates Ned Flanders" medley include the bit with Moe singing "Moe Moe Moe" to the tune of the Andrea True Connection's "More More More"?
