My question is, are the tracks on Disc 2 the actual original recordings ~ so you'd get a de facto "Best Of" as a bonus along with the new album ~ or are they new versions?

My guess is they are live tracks. If you want a 'Best of' you'll need the two Funk Essentials or the 2-CD Gangthology.

"Steppin' Into Love" was apparently an R&B hit last year on the strength of downloads alone. This is the first physical release, along with other new material. From what I gather (their website is very unclear) the second disc is taken from a previously download-only collection called "The Hits: Reloaded", and each track is a new recording featuring a different contemporary singer or rapper.
