1CD Standard Edition

Description
Jethro Tull returns with its first album of all-new music for 22 years.

Evoking Biblical writings in a wholly different way from the now 51 year old Aqualung, The Zealot Gene - in the making since 2017 - is a darker album for darker times.

Ian Anderson elaborates, "While I have a spot of genuine fondness for the pomp and fairytale story-telling of the Holy Book, I still feel the need to question and draw sometimes unholy parallels from the text. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly rear their heads throughout, but are punctuated with elements of love, respect, and tenderness.”

Music born of emotional necessity put together by a band with nothing to prove, The Zealot Gene is a worthy addition to a peerless catalogue.

Limited deluxe 2CD/Blu-ray Artbook edition, includes bonus demo material, plus blu-ray feat. 5.1 surround sound mix (by Jakko Jakszyk). Artbook contains extensive liner notes including an interview with Ian Anderson conducted by Tim Bowness.

I saw Ian's post earlier and he was pictured wearing a hooded cloak, or something like that. Looked fun.
I'll be interested in listening to this.

I thought the band was essentially broken up. I know Martin Barre and Ian have been doing solo projects for years

Well, even without Martin, Ian was traveling and performing with others AS Tull. So, perhaps the same
people will make the new Tull album, even sans Martin, or maybe Martin is willing to be there, too?

I thought that Ian's voice was supposedly almost completely shot. Can we really expect much here?

I wouldn't have any great expectation of Ian's voice being powerful, or anything like that, but
I expect it'll be serviceable. The last concert I saw with him he had guest vocalists helping him
on some of the classic Tull songs. But it's a different thing entirely when doing studio singing
without any need to do more than one song in a row.

One of the things that'll affect Ian's voice is he suffers from copd which was caused[according to what he said some time ago on the interview he did on AXS TV.]by the fog machines Jethro Tull used years ago.......In that interview with Dan Rather Ian said that if he were to stop playing the flute he'd die so that's why he keeps recording/performing.

I'm looking forward to this album, but it makes me think: This is the opposite of the Yes situation. Instead of the band carrying on with a new singer, we have the old singer carrying on with a new band. It's the same band that Ian Anderson was touring and recording with under his own name and they're very good.

I kind of wish Jon Anderson and Martin Barre would team up for a project! :-)

Tull is Anderson, but it feels like it would lend some more legitimacy if he had Martin with him.

I've added cover art and pre-order links (which will be active soon) to the opening post.

The first single from this album will premiere tomorrow morning:

A pretty interesting song, but he sounds horrible and out of breath.

I believe he is still battling COPD which is rough.

I thought the video was cool and it sounds like latter-day Tull.

Joe Parrish is a very fine guitar player.

I didn't mind it. I'd listen to more, but Ian's voice does sound pretty rough.

I was too engrossed and disturbed by the video to listen much to or to read the lyrics.
