From a recent interview Dave Mustaine did with Guitar World:
Quote:
Can you talk a bit about what’s going on with Megadeth now? Are you guys working on new material?
Yes, actually, we are. We have been for a few weeks now. All the band members are at home writing stuff and putting it in the same spot, keeping all the riffs centralized in one place. And anybody can access anybody’s stuff. And then once we’re done I’ll start assembling everything.
So, will we see new Megadeth music in 2019?
Absolutely. For sure. A whole new record, I would say the chances are probably 95 percent. And at least one new song, I’d say it’s 100 percent. No question.
The full interview is about the Killing Is My Business ... And Business Is Good expanded remaster that came out in June, and can found in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=105796&p=2923601#p2923601

Last album was excellent and I hope Dave keeps going down that same path. Megadeth is much better when they avoid the verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure and let the songs just kind of fly off in unexpected directions.

The verses sound like Black Friday. Just listen from 1:22-1:34. Not that sounding like Black Friday is a bad thing as that one is a classic.
The first single is the last song on the album, which I'm guessing is a pretty good sign.
I thought this was supposed to be 14 songs, 12 originals with 2 covers tacked on the end. Now it looks like only 12 songs, even all the versions on Megadeth's site only lists 12 songs (there is a vinyl version with a bonus 7", but that 7" just has We'll Be Back on one side and a live version of The Conjuring on the flip side). Kind of makes me want to wait to see if a "tour edition" comes out

The manipulated and now completely worthless Billboard 200 strikes again. This album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, but was the #1 seller of the week.
Also the #2 album in the UK, #3 in Germany, #10 in Japan, #2 in Australia and a #1 in Finland (assuming the Wiki entries are accurate).
Mustaine's resume is looking really impressive these days. He's up to 8 top 10 albums with another 4 that charted between 11 and 18.

And yet he’s still bitter about being kicked out of Metallica 40 years ago. (which is a shame since I’ve like more Megadeth albums in the last 20 years than I have Metallica albums).

Yeah, he just sees the $$$$$ and thinks if he would have stayed in Metallica he'd probably be worth something like 250 million and, as it is, he probably only has a measly 10 million or something like that.
But looking past that it probably would have wound up with him and Hetfield always butting heads with the little imp always siding with Hetfield and Mustaine getting relegated to lead guitarist only and the vast majority of his compositions never seeing the light of day.
Personally, if I had to pick I'd rather be in complete control of my situation, play my own songs, play with the people I want to play with and be pretty darn happy with the 10 million dollars.
Also would agree that Megadeth's catalog has been far, far, far better than what Metallica has put out over the last 20-30 years. I might go back as far as saying since 1991 as Rust In Peace came out in 1990, Metallica's Black Album came out in 1991 and I like Rush In Peace better than the Black Album. And as far as any album Megadeth has put out that has been complete crap, like Super Collider, Metallica has put out some steaming turds of their own like St. Anger and Lulu.

Never understood his glass half full mentality - he's definitely done better on his own than he would have with those two. And can you imagine how the "Some Kind of Monster" era would've gone with him in the band?

Gotta agree with you guys. Megadeth's first kinda sucked, but everything from Peace to Youthanasia is top notch stuff. Metallica lost their way with Load and beyond.
Got the new disc and finally will play it tomorrow on the way to work. Some are saying (Amazon reviews) it's too thrashy. Others are saying it's his best in years. Can't please everyone I guess.

I want to add that everyone needs to see their performance on the Big 4 video. Again, I think that was the best performance of the whole show and the audience confirms it. Yeah, Dave's vocals were 'fixed' in the studio, but it's still top notch. Slayer did good but couldn't get the same energy from the crowd. Metallica, of course, got the kudos from the audience, but their shows come off as all pomp to me (boring for a better word) despite Kirk's playing on there being the best I've ever seen.

If you believe the stories, they spent all the money on drugs and alcohol and had no money to properly engineer and produce “Killing” and considering Gar Samuelson died at 41, that seems to check out.
