David Crosby spoke to Rolling Stone about a new record to be titled "Lifting Force" or "Lift" including collaborations with Michael McDonald and Donald Fagen.

Crosby noted that on his upcoming album, he "sang my ass into the middle distance. … I think it’s going to be called Lifting Force or Lift. I think it’s going to be really good. We’ve got three singles. I’ve never had singles before, but I’ve got three of them this time. I got one we wrote with Michael McDonald that’s just killer. That’s ‘River Rise,’ and Michael sings harmony with me on it. He and I kill it. When we sing together, it’s scary."

He also said he wrote a song with Fagen. "It’s really fucking good," he added. "I’m so honored he gave us a set of words. I’ve been asking him for a couple of years. He started to trust us, I think. It took a long time, but he gave us a set of words that are really wonderful, and we just wrote the shit out of them.”

Crosby said he thinks "people are going to love the record. I think people are going to like the music. And that is great.

SO looking forward to this. His last three albums were fantastic, and Here If You Listen was my favorite album of 2018.

I hope he's still working with The Lighthouse Band.

Ah yes, I miscounted. I forgot about Croz.

I was hoping he'd do a whole album in the style of "She's Got To Be Somewhere" from Sky Trails. With McDonald and Fagen involved here, I'm hoping this one will be it.

Saw this on twitter. Croz replied to a follower, "Mr Fagen did write a set of words called Rodriguez Tonight which James wrote the music to and I sang the spots off of...
I believe it will blow your teeny little minds"

Other than that I haven't seen any updates on a release date.

Interesting he's working with Fagan & McDonald. I always felt that CPR had a huge Steely Dan influence due to James Raymond. I don't like McDonald; imo he ruined the Doobie Brothers.

David Crosby has spoken of his love of Steely Dan, so I don't know that the influence was due to only James Raymond. Crosby also spoken of his fondness for McDonald's voice. I think it will be interesting to hear a blend of their voices.

More than likely, I imagine this will be released in 2021.

crosby has recorded joni mitchell's "for free' twice already, i wonder if this will be the third time, or just using it for the album title.

he said that his record company, BMG, is telling him it will have a may release.

WhyTF are they waiting until May for what sadly is going to be a niche release. Feb or March!

It really should come out ASAP given his financial crisis and rename it "For $15.98" (CD version).

We'll get to hear that collaboration with Michael McDonald this Friday as Crosby announced that "New single "River Rise" w Michael McDonald out Friday 20th May"

Crosby's website (actually, a tweet you can see there) says the title song is in fact the Joni Mitchell tune, featuring Sara Jarosz on harmony vocals. The artwork is by Joan Baez (name sounds familiar).

per the inclusion of a co-written Fagen tune, I will be purchasing this.
(not that Fagen's history of co-writing with others than Becker has been good - that effort with Rundgren was abysmal.)
