loved loved loved this band (just like the jayhawks) so much and then they just started this slow downward spiral with each subsequent album just a little less listenable than the last one.

The last thing I loved from Tweedy was The Whole Love. But they are still one of my favorite bands, and even when touring albums i don't like are still an amazing band on the stage. (seen Wilco/Jeff Tweedy 45 times).

Agree with this. For me, the problem has been production. My understanding is that for the last two records Tweedy recorded the songs and emailed them to the rest of the band to add their bits. The production feels homemade and the sound isn't good at all. It's really a shame because they are one of the best bands out there. Hopefully this one is a return to form.
