Not that I have any hopes or expectations for this based on their last couple of albums, but...

Aerosmith Postpone American Tour Plans to Work on New Album

By Michael Gallucci

March 28, 2017

Aerosmith have postponed their plans for a fall 2017 American tour to work on some new music.
The band has spent most of the past five months talking about its Aero-Vederci Baby! tour, which may or may not be the group’s last. But now, plans to bring that tour to North America have been tabled so they can work on a new album, according to a new interview with guitarist Joe Perry.

“We postponed the American tour we were supposed to do this fall,” he told AZ Central. “And we’re gonna go out and tour until we’re done. And we’re gonna try and hit every place we’ve ever played and never played. There’s always new places to go. New countries. I’d like to play China and the Far East. There’s a lot of places that are off the beaten path. Is this the last tour? Well, I don’t know. I don’t think so.”
Aerosmith are still scheduled to play some overseas dates starting in May that will keep them on the road until early July. Perry said that “one of the reasons we postponed [the American] tour” was to “give ourselves some time to get something done. We definitely have another record in us, if not two. But we’ll see how that goes.”

Perry has previously said that the upcoming tour will be an extensive one, but, despite its name, the shows shouldn’t be construed as their final ones. When asked by AZ Central if this will be a farewell tour, he said, “Not officially, no.”

“Try and picture your last meal,” he explained. “You’re only gonna eat so many times in your life. You’re gonna sit down at the table 258 million times. There’s a finite number of times you’re gonna do anything in your life. To picture a final Aerosmith gig, it’s like … I can’t do it. There’s too much of that ‘rock until you drop’ ingrained into this band. But like I said, we’re at the end, so who knows how long it’s gonna go?”

Keep the outside writers out and see what kind of record they can actually make.

Naw, that's too much to ask.

I think Aerosmith is out of gas creatively.

I'd rather not see an album come out if it's going to be anything like the last couple.

It was 20 years ago this month that Aerosmith released its last strong album, Nine Lives.

Since then, we've gotten two albums of new material and a blues covers album.

And the blues album was the best of that lot.

I think their last good record was Pump.... and people would argue with me about that. If we were to go that route and only use the 70s as a benchmark, then Wings, Toys, and Rocks would be the pinnacle.

I'd rank the first album with the other 3 you mention. It's probably my favorite.

For me the last good one that I listen to often is Just Push Play (2001), it opened at #2 in the US. It has their last great single "Jaded" and quite a few really nice tunes like "Fly Away Fron Here""Sunshine" and " Avant Garden".

This is one I play in the gym quite often. It's a grower.

Just Push Play is my least favorite Aerosmith album ever.

I agree with this.

I would put even my least favorite songs from Draw the Line or Ruts ahead of pretty much anything they've done since Pump which, as you said, is a GOOD album - not a great one like Wings, Toys, and Rocks. The last one I REALLY liked was Permanent Vacation. Then again I consider Rock in a Hard Place a lost classic so what do I know?

I've been on a strange Aerosmith kick here in the last couple of weeks. Maybe it has to do with being ¼ the way thru Joe Perry's book?

Draw The Line was a strange album. There were songs that should've been good but fell short due to their drug use. Ruts was, imo, a better album than DTL. It had better production for one thing. The song were better, but not great.

Perm Vac was really good in spots. Dude and the sappy Angel are songs I can do without. Pump was all around pretty damn good. Elevator I can do without. Maybe because it was overplayed way back then.

Rock In A Hard Place was spotty, which I expected back when it came out, due to Perry and Whitford being gone.

I'm still pondering on getting the first 5 albums on BluSpec2 from CdJapan. Rick said they sound really good. They're not remastered other than using the 1994 Vic Anesini remasters.

One thing I picked up on early in Perry's book was Joe saying that Tyler loved the sappy ballads back then and he had a hard time with that. This was before they even had a record deal. So, we know that Aerosmith's ballads are mostly a Tyler thing.

I can't figure out why they keep using outside writers. Joe Perry's last two solo albums were really good. Pair those songs with Tyler, Hamilton, or Whitford as co-writers, and those songs would be stellar Aerosmith tunes. I know they have it in them to put out something grand. Their last disc was garbage. I tried to like it and I just can't. Repeated listens make me hate it more.
