Eleven days after bowing Marvel's Daredevil, Netflix has renewed the superhero drama for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Daredevil, starring Boardwalk Empire alum Charlie Cox, was the first of five Marvel series to debut on the streaming service. The series will return in 2016 — with new showrunners Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy), who will take over for Steven DeKnight. (DeKnight took over for initial showrunner Drew Goddard, who exited to focus on Marvel features.)

Jon Bernthal Cast As Punisher In Daredevil Season 2

For his next comic book television show, actor Jon Bernthal will find himself doling out some punishment.

That’s because Marvel Studios and Netflix have cast Bernthal as The Punisher for Daredevil’s second season. Bernthal, who famously played Shane on AMC’s The Walking Dead, will bring Frank Castle to life when Netflix’s hit Marvel series returns in 2016. When last viewers last saw Bernthal in The Walking Dead, he took a bullet from Carl Grimes after turning into a Walker. Looks like its time for some hard-earned payback for Bernthal. With announcement, Marvel also unveiled Daredevil's Season 2 Logo.



"Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, told Marvel.com. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Marvel did not specify if the Punisher would be friend or foe to Daredevil in the Netflix series, but the bullet-riddled logo implies the latter. The two have always held a slightly adversarial relationship in the Comics, but have rarely been out-right enemies. But when more updates on Bernthal and The Punisher break, ComicBook.com will be the first to report it.

I don’t see why they couldn’t. It’s pretty lightweight, really. They could squeeze it into a single episode, no problem. At the very least they could give us enough to understand what motivates him, and flesh it out in other series if they want to go deeper (though I’d save that for his own series / movie / special).

Elodie Yung has been cast as Elektra in the second season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” Variety has confirmed.

The character is a favorite of fans of the Marvel comicbooks that serve as the basis for the popular Netflix series, which stars Charlie Cox as justice-seeking lawyer/vigilante Matt Murdock. Although she was hinted at in season one, Elektra has yet to appear in the series. The casting description simply describes her as “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.” (Jennifer Garner portrayed Elektra in the 2003 “Daredevil” movie and in the 2005 spinoff).

Yung, a French-born actress, is best known for roles in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

Yung was born in Paris, on February 22, 1981. Her father is Cambodian and her mother is French.She graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and also has a Master Degree in Law from the University of Paris. She has practiced karate for over ten years.
