Who would you get to do one?
I'd go Darwyn Cooke and have him set it during the 50's/60's.

Mike Grell did a few back in the '80s(IIRC).

DC had their hands on the comic rights to Bond and published a reprint of a Dr. No comic in the 60's, but decided not to stay in the 007 business.
I would've liked Nick Cardy or Jim Aparo James Bond.

Cooke would definitely be an interesting choice. And Robert is correct; Grell did a three-issue mini entitled "Permission to Die" published by Eclipse in the 1980s. He also did an adaptation of "Licence to Kill" around the same time.

BTW, other creators who have worked on comics versions of Bond through the years (with mixed results) include Larry Hama, Howard Chaykin, Doug Moench, Paul Gulacy, & Don McGregor.

The Grell mini was cool...another mini I enjoyed was by Moench and Gulacy even though it hd some sci fi elements that felt out of place (the villain was using dinosaur DNA..ala Jurassic Park)...
Cooke on a 60s era Bond would be amazing...!
Warren Ellis once wrote a small essay on Bond (a lot of which was similar to the film reboot of Casino Royale..except darker)..would like to see his take..with maybe Cassaday on art chores or Cully Hammer.
Andy Diggle and Jock would be cool as well..something set in modern times...
Actually im surprised no one has the licence to this..IDW would be a good home...with 2-3 concurrent series set in different eras...wonder why no on has picked it up for comics...

Hanzo - the Grell mini is worth it - the first 2 episodes have lots of cold war action as he rescues a girl from behind the Iron Curtain - the 3rd part is a little slow but still fun. Reminiscent in tone of Jon Sable - action and intrigue in a past setting. Holds up quite well (like most of Grell's work IMO).

I think it's available in a collected edition as well. Check AmazWAN.

Yeah. I thought that that "Jurassic Park" one had a little too much sci fi in it. That's too bad. You would think that Moench and Gulacy would be a perfect team for Bond. I did like that Grell mini-series a great deal at the time. I haven't read it since it came out.

I've never read Sable either, though.

I thought of a good candidate to write a James Bond comic: Greg Rucka. That's kind of obvious, really, and I should have thought of it before. His QUEEN AND COUNTRY is excellent.
On the other hand, part of me thinks that it would be best to go with British creators. Alan Davis can both write and draw. I wonder if he's a Bond fan?

Yikes, those colored panels almost have me rethinking my purchase but thankfully, these will be in black and white.
