RIP. A wonderful artist who never really got his due. I loved his work.

Geez. Deathwise, 2016 is a real piece of shit.

You're right, Red....never got the due he deserved.

If he had been a generation or two earlier, he would be mentioned with the greatest of all time.

Instead, his work was often overlooked and underappreciated in the flashy/splashy IMAGE era 80s/90s.

Great artist.

I only had a very brief interaction with Paul Ryan, but he was an absolute gentleman to deal with.

A couple of years ago it was my stores' 25th anniversary, and I had some goodie bags made up of various random variant issues, some promo stuff, etc. The bag itself was a nice quality tote bag, and Mr Ryan agreed to do the art for it.

He sent a pencil rough, some tight pencils, an inked version (see below) and he even threw in a duotone version basically for his own amusement. He was a friend of my business partner, so he did it for absolutely nothing, but that didn't effect one bit how seriously he took it at each stage.

This is terrible, terrible news.

Paul was a great artist and storyteller ... but he was an even better man.

He left us much too soon.
