I didn't look deeper than the examples shown above, but I liked more of the Whedon ones than the Abrams ones, so I went with him. Both are creators who get me to take a look at something they're involved in though.

Of the current crop who grew up loving the same stuff we do and are now in a position to do something with that affection, I think these two are the cream of the crop.
Whedon is better at giving depth to the stuff he does, but Abrams is better handling the spectacle; both are quite talented, however.
In a perfect world, Whedon should've been the one to reboot Star Trek, and Abrams should've been put in charge of bringing Superman and the Justice League to the screen. Alas, we don't live in a perfect world. But since we got Avengers and The Force Awakens anyway, it's pretty good.

I would say JJ Abrams, but only because he's revived two franchises I'm fond of.
Joss Whedon did the Avengers, but I am unfamiliar with his work. I know what he's done, but never watch Buffy or Firefly.

Whedon's baby. The Buffyverse alone cinched my vote but throw in Avengers 1(Age Of Ultron is a disappointment IMO) and that's the icing on the nerd cake!
