Illinois because Chicago. Always have a soft spot for it since I lived there once. The rest of the state is mostly awful though.

Kentucky has a lot of beautiful country and some great caves. But Ohio has the Hocking Hills, some great islands on Lake Erie, and the Air Force Museum outside Dayton. All of which I got to see on vacation last year!

I've been in Kentucky for almost 58 years now so I'm somewhat biased. I like Illinois for Chicago but not sure what else it has to offer. I like Michigan because it's my closest entry to Canada. I'm a big fan of Cincinnati, and like the other Ohio cities I've been in as well. For sheer beauty, Kentucky is tough to beat though. In addition to the horse farms in my Bluegrass region, we have Appalachian mountains and great hiking areas, we have Mammoth Cave, and the rest of the state reminds me a lot of Ireland. Lexington is a very navigable small city/college town, and Louisville has most of what you would want out of bigger cities. If I won the Powerball, I could see spending more time in NYC and California, but would definitely keep a home base here. I can't see wanting to live in any of those other states.

How little I think of Kentucky. I never even considered picking it over any of the other states. I LIVE in Kentucky.

Linda wrote: I picked Kentucky because of Fried Chicken. I had Carolinas-style fried chicken several times at a drinking buddy's place in Toronto and it was amazing. IIRC from the episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and DIves that featured his restuarant, he soaked the chicken in buttermilk for a couple of days before it saw the fryer. It was spectacular. It consistently won the best fried chicken in Toronto every year.

I picked Kentucky. I have an associate here from Illinois, and her parents moved here to live here after she graduated and took this job. I just assumed they all lived somewhere in the orbit of Chicago (I think of Illinois as a giant suburb of Chicago). But they live 3 hours a away and apparently Illinois is not too great if you're just in regular old Illinois-land.
