He got along remarkably well on that wooden leg, too. He could run, swim, climb, and do parachute jumps.

From what I recall of my brother's war comics, Captain Storm survived having a remarkable number of PT boats sunk out from under him. John F. Kennedy got a whole book and movie for having survived just one! Maybe it's because unlike Captain Storm he didn't keep losing most of his crew.

I approve of Captain Storm, despite never having heard of him before seeing this thread.

I do wonder what it would have been like to have all these non-superhero comics on the stands. by the time I started looking it was only really OAAW and Weird War Tales that were still going. A great idea for a character, though.

All the Capt. Storm issues are drawn by Irv Novick.

You can't see it in that picture, but the poor Captain was also missing an eye. Or anyway, he had an eye patch, so it didn't work at least.

He and several other recurring military characters were teamed up at some point to form a team called The Losers. My brother and his friends had some issues with stories about them. I don't recall just a whole lot about them, except that Captain Storm had a history of losing boats and crews. And that Jack Kirby drew several issues of their adventures at some point. And I think he actually did research about World War II to write them! Must have had something to do with his being an actual World War II veteran himself.
