Today (21 Dec, 2006) is 12.19.13.16.8 on the Mayan Calendar, and while that date isn't necessarily significant, it puts us a mere six years from the date where the calendar simply stops. This has led many to believe that a great cataclysm will occur on 21 Dec, 2012 and wipe out most, if not all, of civilization!

Here's mine: The supervolcano under Yellowstone National Park will explode and wipe out most of the life on the planet!

You stole mine, Frank. I'd add that the Yellowstone eruption/explosion will set off a chain reaction of other such supervolcanoes around the world, ending all life on earth. Except cockroaches.

On the day 13.0.0.0.0, Frank will give up on the Beatles. On that same day, civilization will end.

I'll probably have to, since it's highly likely that all the elctricity will be permanently switched off that day.

Steve Alten has a book called "Domain" that deals with this subject. Neat ideas in that book, but Alten doesn't have the chops to make you care about any of his characters. The plot is that Evil Aliens landed in the Gulf of Mexico millenia ago, and have lain dormant, preparing to convert the Earth to their purposes on 21 Dec, 2012. Good Aliens landed and interbred with the Mayan peoples to produce a superhuman that could stop them.

I was so pissed off when the Aztec calendar ended a few years ago. As a loyal Art Bell listener, I was waiting in anticipation for the rising up of the Aztec Overlords to once again dominate all creation. I wanted them to know I was on their side!!
