Does anyone else watch this show? It’s a Nickelodeon program ostensibly aimed at kids but entirely and completely cool enough for adults to enjoy, too. It’s an epic American cartoon, heavily Asian influenced, that merges American style and tone with anime and manga and Asian folklore and all sorts of other goodness. The story itself is a big, giant, ongoing tale that has thus far spanned a season and a half. BIG plot. Awesome characters. INSANE action. Great animation. Excellent scripts. Fun humor. This show totally rocks. I think I might like it even more than my son. We’ve been getting the season 2 discs in the mail as they come out, and recently backtracked and began watching season one from the start to get all caught up. I banged out a pair of sloppy reviews of disc one and disc two of the second season; if all goes well, I’ll keep getting those discs, because I really, really enjoy this show. You might recognize Aang, the kid who is the Avatar: Come on, someone else has to be watching this. It’s a great show, at times like a comic come to life. I mean, what other cartoons can you name that have The Good, The Bad & The Ugly homages, tributes to Akira Kurosawa, wire-fu action, and poo jokes? Oh, and Toph, the blind Earthbender, might just be the coolest, most badass 10-year-old girl ever.

Yes. Excellent show from the episodes I've caught. We watched it all together for a long time.

We do the same. Recently the family has taken to gathering round the set and watching an episode with dinner. Even Mrs. Taft has found herself drawn into the story, and we ALL laugh at the humor.

I am so glad to find some other Avatar fans - simply one of the best, most thoughtful (on several levels) animations I have seen in a long time.
Moral without being preachy, such a refreshing change from the usual "black and white good versus evil" fantasy scenario.
And beautiful imaginative drawing and animation
We've just finished what I guess is season one on UK terrestrial TV.
As you can imagine I am particularly impressed by the characterisation of the the female characters - it is great to have a story that is accessible for both boys and girls.

The creators do some commentary on the season 2 DVDs, Jo, and they discuss exactly that - their strong desire to have good, well-rounded, strong female characters. Not just cliched 'strong female character,' but fully-realized individuals. I agree with you that they succeeded. These guys are very good at giving each character a unique viewpoint and "voice" and place in the world.

My kids love it, but I haven't followed it any. Just overheard bits and pieces of it while they've had it on.

On August 14, the fourth and final disc of Season 2 hits the streets. My review of said disc is here (click the image; it's a link): And remember, if you'd like to buy it, do so via AmazWAN and help IMWAN keep the bills paid.

When does the third season start? I assume soon, since they're about a week away from rerunning the first and second seasons all right in a row.

The final four episodes of this show aired this weekend in one big block, a four-part climax to the three-season long story. Haven't watched them yet, but the family and I are really looking forward to it. I acquired the episodes last night, so we'll be watching ASAP.

Saw it last week. It'll be a bumper year if I see 10 worse movies in 2010.

I need to see the TV series now. I heard it was good. I'll watch it as soon as it released it here. I'll be livetwitting the awesomeness. And yeah, watch the show. It was great.
