‘Full House’ 2014 Sequel Series in Development

One of the most beloved sitcoms from the ’90s, Full House, may soon be returning to TV in a sequel series centered on D.J. and Stephanie Tanner. Don’t worry: Danny, Joey, Jesse and Rebecca are likely returning, as well.

News of the Tanner family’s return was originally revealed in the Newport Gazette, where series creator Jeff Franklin let slip that he had begun work on a sequel to the hit ABC series. Additionally, Franklin also hinted that the majority of the cast has already shown interest in reprising their roles.

Though two brief quotes isn’t much to go on, news of a Full House revival can’t be too much of surprise to anyone now that Boy Meets World will be returning this year in a sequel series of its own titled Girl Meets World. Still, with a 20-year gap between its cancellation and a return, there’s a chance that fans might not champion a Tanner sequel in the same way they did with Corey and Topanga – but that’s not to say Full House hasn’t earned a second chance, by any means.

When Full House was canceled in 1994, it was still pulling in 11 million viewers an episode. In Dave Coulier’s episode of The Kevin Pollak Chat Show, the former Full House star revealed that Ted Harbert – then president of ABC Entertainment (now Chairman of NBC Broadcasting) – wanted to move their more mature 9pm line-up, Roseanne and Home Improvement, to 8pm. In order to do that, Full House had to be canceled.

After cancellation, Full House went on to gain even more popularity in syndication, where it was said to be so popular that there would always be an episode of Full House airing somewhere in the world. Today, Full House still airs in 11 countries, including America. Perhaps it’s not such a bad idea to give this juggernaut show another go?

Of course, with a sequel series comes new faces, new settings – essentially new everything, except the familiar characters. As with the Boy Meets World sequel, the Full House sequel will continue by telling a modern tale of the Tanner family, with D.J. and Stephanie (and most likely their family) taking a majority of the lead. That being said, if the way in which D.J. and Stephanie grew up plays a part in how they’ll raise their own families, don’t be surprised if some familiar faces move in to help make each their homes as “full” as they can be.

Perhaps not surprisingly, no mention of the Michelle character returning. It would be awkward to see which of the twins would want to take the role.

They should continue to swap them out throughout each scene, even thought they have different hairstyles.

Wiki sez that both have permanently quit acting to focus on their fashion design careers.

Fun fact: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are fraternal twins, not identical. I still cannot tell them apart. My gut tells me that Ashley's the better-looking one, though.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Not Returning for 'Fuller House' Revival

Fuller House is moving forward without one very important member of the Tanner family.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will not reprise the role they shared as Michelle in the upcoming Netflix revival of the beloved ABC sitcom, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

“Although Ashley and Mary-Kate will not be a part of Fuller House, I know how much Full House has meant to them and they are still very much considered family," executive producer Robert L. Boyett said in a statement. "It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavors. I appreciate their support and good wishes towards Fuller House."

The new incarnation will star original cast members Candace Cameron Bure (D.J.), her on-screen younger sister, Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) and Andrea Barber, who played her best friend, Kimmy Gibbler. John Stamos will produce and reprise his role as Uncle Jesse in a guest role. Dave Coulier will also return as Uncle Joey. Talks are underway to bring back fellow original stars Bob Saget and Lori Loughlin.

Although much of the original cast is set to return, the Olsen twins' participation had long been in question. Days after the revival was officially announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in late April, they said they had not been made aware of the plan to bring the show back. However, Stamos subsequently called their claim "bullshit" in a tweet that has since been deleted.

The entrepreneurs got their start on Full House when they were just nine months old. They quickly turned their notoriety on the show into an empire of direct-to-video movies and specials under their company, Dualstar Entertainment, which was formed in 1993. After Full House ended in 1995, they starred on two other short-lived TV series, Two of a Kind and So Little Time. In recent years, the Olsens have turned their attention to their two fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James.

Ashley has not acted since an uncredited appearance in 2010's I'm Still Here, and Mary-Kate has not acted since 2011's Beastly.

Premiering on Netflix in 2016, the series finds D.J. Tanner-Fuller employed as a vet, pregnant and recently widowed, and living in San Francisco. Stephanie, now an aspiring musician, and single mother Kimmy — along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona — all move in to help take care of D.J.’s two boys, the rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic 7-year-old Max, and her soon-to-arrive baby.

The multicamera comedy hails from Warner Horizon Television, Miller-Boyett Productions and Jeff Franklin Productions. Full House creator Jeff Franklin will return to oversee Fuller House alongside exec producers Boyett and Thomas L. Miller. The series originally aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995.

John Stamos "Heartbroken" That Olsen Twins Won't Be Returning for 'Fuller House'

Full House fans aren't the only ones who were crushed by the news that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen won't be returning for Netflix's upcoming spinoff series Fuller House -- Uncle Jesse is just as upset.

John Stamos took to Twitter to express his regrets that the Olsen twins wouldn't be reprising their role as Michelle Tanner. After retweeting a Huffington Post article about the news, he wrote, "#heartbroken." A followup tweet read: "I understand they're in a different place and I wish them the best. I promise you will not be dissapointed with our reunion and spin off!!"

The actor later posted on Facebook that he was "sad that a few don't share the rest of the cast's opinion" in regards to the Olsen twins not returning for the Full House spin-off and wished them "the best."
