He is a powerful combination -- long-lived, but also looked very old for his age when he wasn't that old. It's had the effect of making him seem eternal.

He was only about 50 when The Godfather was filmed, and in his fifties during Barney Miller. Incredible.

I saw him on Barney Miller first, so when I saw him in The Godfather, the first thing I thought was "Fish!"
