Halloween followed closely by The Thing.

I also really, really love The Fog and consider it a vastly underrated horror classic.

Voted Halloween because I saw it at the movies and it remains probably my favorite horror movie.
But another great one is Assault On Precinct 13 which opens with a terrifying scene (the ice cream truck).

These three are clumped tightly together for me.

Since I only get to vote for one, The Thing(although it's in a 4 way tie with EfNY, Halloween & BTiLC for me)...

I can't choose. There's too much greatness on that list.

GHOSTS OF MARS is probably his worst, but I had a really fun time seeing it opening night. There were four other people in the movie theater. We started yelling out dialogue before the actors spoke it, and got it right repeatedly. Could that really be the only John Carpenter film I've seen in a theater?

I have wonderful memories of seeing THE THING on video when I was ten. The dude's head ripping itself off and skittering sent me fleeing the room.

After much consideration, The Thing had to win. I love most of the movies listed (Starman is about the only one I really dislike), but The Thing is/was amazing.

I can watch Dark Star at any old time. It's fun to see how much of the script Dan O'Bannon recycled into his screenplay for Alien. It's like a dry run in some ways.

Again, Jimbo has proven that he and I must share sizable amounts of DNA.

No doubt.

Director Danny Boyle's space adventure Sunshine featured a character named Pinbacker, borrowed directly from Dark Star.

Sunshine is an extremely underrated movie.
